Isaiah 5

¹ Hear as I dey sing this song for you, song of my friend and him vineyard: My friend get vineyard on top better hill.

² He dig soil and him commot the stone wey dey for there; he con plant fine vines. He con build tower to protect them, he dig pit to dey march the grape. He wait make the grape ripe, but all the grape come spoil.

³ So now my friend talk say, “You people wey dey live for Jerusalem and Judah, make una judge between me and my vineyard.

⁴ Shey anything dey wey I fail to do for am? Then why e con produce bad grape and sey no be good grape wey I dey expect?

⁵ “Na wetin I go do to my vineyard be this; I go remove the fence wey surround am, I go break the wall wey dey protect am, and I go allow wild animal chop am and also destroy am.

⁶ I go allow weed grow inside am. I no go remove the vine or hoe the ground; instead I go allow wild briars and thorn cover am. I no go even allow cloud give am rain.

⁷ Israel na the vineyard of the Almighty God; people of Judah na the vine wey he don plant. Him dey expect them to dey do wetin dey good, but instead dem commit murder. Him dey expect them to dey do wetin dey right, but the people wey dey under them dey cry for justice.

⁸ Una don enter trouble! Una buy plenty house and field to those wey don already get. Soon place no go dey for anybody else to dey live again, and na only una go dey live for the land.

⁹ I don hear the Almighty God, dey talk say, “All their big, good houses go destroy.

¹⁰ The grapevine wey dey grow on ten hectares of land go only yield eight litres of wine. 180 litres of seed go only produce 18litres of corn.”

¹¹ Una don enter trouble! Una wake for early momo and start to dey drink, and una spend long evening to dey drunk.

¹² For una celebration una get harp and tambourines and flutes- and wine. But una no understand wetin God dey do,

¹³ Them go carry una away like prisoners. Na hunger go kill una leaders, and common people go die of water.

¹⁴ World of the dead dey hungry for them, and e don open him mouth wide. E carry the nobles of Jerusalem go down with cry of plenty common people.

¹⁵ Shame go catch everybody, and all people wey get pride go humble.

¹⁶ But Almighty God dey show him greatness to dey do right thing, and he dey show him holiness to dey judge him people.

¹⁷ For the destruction of the cities lamp go chop grass and young goat go find pasture.

¹⁸ Una don enter trouble! Una no fit break free from una sin.

¹⁹ Una talk say, “Make God hurry up and do wetin he talk say he go do, so that we fit see am. Make holy God of Israel do wetin him don plan say he go do; make we see wetin he get for mind.”

²⁰ Una don enter trouble! Una dey call evil good and una dey call good evil. Una turn darkness to light and una turn light to darkness. Una make wetin dey bitter sweet, and wetin dey sweet una make am bitter.

²¹ Una don enter trouble! Una think say una wise, una think say una smart.

²² Una don enter trouble! Una heroes of wine bottle! Una dey brave and fearless when e comes to dey mix drink!

²³ But una allow guilty person go free because of bribe, and una no allow the innocent get justice.

²⁴ So now, just as straw and dry glass dey dry and burn for fire, una root go rot and una flower go dry and blow away, because una don reject wetin the LORD Almighty, holy God of Israel don teach us.

²⁵ God dey vex for him people and he don stretch out him hand to punish them. The mountain go shake, and the bodies of those wey don die go remain for street like rubbish. Yet even the anger of God no go end, he go still stretch out him hand to punish.

²⁶ God dey give signal to call for distance nation. He whistle say make them come from end of the earth. And now them don come here fast, quick!

²⁷ No one tire among them. Dem no doze or sleep. Even their belt no loose; even their sandal no break.

²⁸ Their arrow dey sharp, their bows don ready to shoot. Their horses hooves hard like rock, and their chariot- wheel dey turn like whirlwind.

²⁹ The soldiers dey shout like lion wey don kill animal and wey dey carry am go where nobody fit collect am from them.

³⁰ When that day come, dem go shout loud over Israel like sea. Make una look this this country! Darkness and pain! Darkness don swallow the light.
