Numbers 11

¹ The people begin dey complain to God about their trouble. When God hear them, he vex and send fire on the people. The fire burn some of them and e destroy one part of the camp.

² The people begin dey cry to Moses for help; he come pray to God, and the fire die down.

³ Naso dem name the place Taberah, because na there fire of God burn some of the people.

⁴ E get some foreigners wey dey travel with Israelites. Dem like to dey eat meat, and even Israelites begin dey complain: “If we fit get some meat!

⁵ For Egypt, we dey eat all the fish wey we want, and e no dey cost us anything. Una remember the cucumber, the watermelon, the leeks, the onions, and the garlics wey we get?

⁶ But now we no get strength again. Nothing dey to eat – nothing but manna day after day!”

⁹ E dey fall on top camp with dew for night. People dey go round go gather am next morning, grind am or turn am to flour, and then boil am and use am make flat cakes. E dey taste like bread wey dem bake with olive oil.)

¹⁰ Moses hear all the people dey complain as dem gather in groups for entrance of their tents. He no happy as God dey vex with them,

¹¹ and he tell God say, “Why you treat me bad like this? Why you no dey happy with me? Why you don ask me to dey take care of all these people?

¹² No be me create them or born them! Why you ask me say make I act like nurse and carry them for my arms like baby all the way to the land wey you don promise their ancestors?

¹³ Where I wan get enough meat for all these people? Dem just dey ask for meat always.

¹⁴ I no fit take care of all these people by myself; e too much for me!

¹⁵ If na like this you go treat me, just have pity on me and kill me, so that I no go need to suffer from you again.”

¹⁶ God tell Moses say, “Gather together 70 men wey be leaders of the people, bring them to me for Tent of my presence, and tell them make dem stand beside you.

¹⁷ I go come down and follow you talk for there, and I go take some of the spirits wey I don give you and give am to them. Then dem fit help you take care of the people, and you no go dey do am alone.

¹⁸ Now tell the people, ‘make una purify unaself for tomorrow; una go get meat to eat. God don hear as una dey complain say una wish say una get meat to eat, and say una dey enjoy better for Egypt. Now God go give una meat, and una go eat am.

¹⁹ Una no go just eat am for one day or two days, or five day, or ten days, or twenty days sef,

²⁰ but for complete month, until e begin dey come out of una ears, until una don tire to dey eat am. E go happen because una don reject God wey dey among una and una don complain to him say una no suppose don commot for Egypt.’”

²¹ Moses tell God say, “I dey here dey lead 600,000 people, and you talk say you go give them enough meat for a month?

²² Shey we fit kill enough cattle and sheep to satisfy them? Shey all the fish wey dey inside sea go dey enough for them?”

²³ God come answer say, “Any limit dey for my power? You go soon see whether wetin I don talk go happen or not!”

²⁴ Naso Moses go out and tell the people wetin God don talk. He gather 70 of the leaders together round the Tent.

²⁵ God come down for inside cloud and follow him talk. He take some of the spirit he don give Moses and give am to the seventy leaders. When the spirit enter them, dem begin dey shout like prophets, but e no long.

²⁶ Two of the seventy leaders, Eldad and Medad, don stay in camp and dem no go out to the Tent. For there in the camp, the spirit enter them, and dem begin dey shout like prophets too.

²⁷ A young man run come tell Moses wetin Eldad and Medad dey do.

²⁸ Naso Joshua son of Nun, wey don dey help Moses since he be young man, speak up and tell Moses say, “Stop them, sir!”

²⁹ Moses answer say, “Shey na my own dey concern you? I wish say God fit give him spirit to all him people and make all of them shout like prophets!”

³⁰ Naso Moses and the seventy leaders of Israel go back to camp.

³¹ Suddenly, God send wind wey bring quails from the sea, e dey fly less than a meter on top ground. Dem settle on top camp and all round camp for many kilometers for every direction.

³² All through that day, all night, and all the next day, the people just dey catch quails; nobody gather less than 1,000 kilograms. Dem spread them out to dry all-round the camp.

³³ people begin dey eat meat, but God come vex again. As the meat dey their mouth, before dem finish to dey eat am, God begin dey make them sick and die.

³⁴ Naso dem name the place Kibroth Hattaavah, because na there dem bury people wey too like to dey eat meat.

³⁵ From Kibroth Hattaavah, the people travel go Hazeroth and dem stay there.
