Deuteronomy 14

¹ People of Israel, na God pikin una be, so when una mourn the dead, make una no cut unaself or shave una forehead.

² Out of all nations wey dey on top earth, the LORD una God choose una to be him own. Na God own una be, so make una no behave like people wey dey worship other gods.

³ Make una no eat any unclean animal.

⁵ Una fit eat meat of cattle, sheep, and goats; wild sheep and goats; antelopes and all kind deer.

⁶ E dey all right to dey eat meat from any animal wey get divided hoofs wey dey always chew cud.

⁷ But make una no eat camels, rabbits, or rock badgers. Dem get divided hoofs but dem no dey chew cud. Make una treat them as unclean.

⁸ Make una no dey chop pork, since pigs get divided hoofs, but dem no dey chew their cud. No dey even touch pig wey don die!

⁹ Una fit eat any fish wey get fins and scales. But e get other creatures wey still dey live inside water,

¹⁰ and if dem no get fins and scales, make una no eat them. Make una treat them as unclean.

¹¹ Una fit eat any clean bird.

¹⁸ But make una no dey chop meat of any birds wey follow so: eagles, vultures, falcons, kites, ravens, ostriches, owls, sea gulls, hawks, pelicans, ospreys, cormorants, storks, herons, hoopoes. Make una no chop bats.

¹⁹ Make una no dey chop insects wey dey waka together in large number.

²⁰ But una fit chop some kind insects wey get wings.

²¹ Una belong to the LORD una God, so if una find dead animal, make una no eat the meat. Una fit give am to foreigners wey dey live for una town or sell am to foreigners wey dey visit una town. Make una no kill any goat wey still dey suck milk from the mama.

²² People of Israel, every year una must keep ten percent of una grain harvest aside.

²³ Make una also set aside ten percent of una wine and olive oil, and first-born of every cow, sheep, and goat. Take am to the place wey God choose for worship and eat am there. This go teach una to always obey the LORD una God.

²⁴ But suppose say una no fit carry that ten percent of una harvest to the place wey God choose for worship. If una dey live far away, or if the LORD give una big harvest,

²⁵ then make una sell this part and take the money go there.

²⁶ When una and una family reach there, make una spend the money on food for a big celebration. Buy cattle, sheep, goats, wine, beer, and if any other kind food dey wey una wan buy, buy am too.

²⁷ And since Levites no go get any land for growing crops, remember to ask them to come celebrate with you.

²⁸ For every third year, instead of using una ten percent for big celebration, make una bring am to town and put am for community storehouse.

²⁹ The Levites no get land of their own, so una must give them food from the storehouse. Una must also give food to the poor wey dey live for una town, with the orphans, widows, and foreigners. If dem get enough to eat, then the LORD una God go dey happy and give una success for everything wey una do.
