Malachi 2

¹ God almighty tell the priests say, “This command na for una:

⁴ Then una go know say I don give una this command, so that my covenant with the priest, the descendants of Levi, no go break.

⁵ For my covenant I don promise them life and peace, and na wetin I give dem be this, so that dem fit respect me. For those days wey dem respect me and fear me.

⁶ Dem teach wetin dey right and no be wetin dey wrong. Dem live in harmony with me; dem no only do wetin dey right themselves but dem also help others to stop to dey do evil.

⁷ Na the work of the priests be to dey teach the true knowledge of God. Make people go meet dem learn my will, because dem be the messengers of Almighty God.

⁸ But now, you priests don turn away from the right way. Una teaching don make plenty people go do wrong. Una don break the covenant wey I don make with una.

⁹ So, me too go make people of Israel no respect una because una no obey my will, and when una teach my people una no dey treat everyone same way.”

¹⁰ No be the same father we get? No be same God create all of us? Then why we dey break promises among ourselves, and why we no dey respect the covenant wey God don make with our ancestors?

¹¹ People of Judah don break their promises to God and don do terrible thing for Jerusalem and on top the country. Dem no respect the Temple wey God love. Men don marry women wey worship foreign gods.

¹² God go remove those people wey dey do this from the community of Israel, and make una no allow dem take part in the offering wey our nation bring to Almighty God.

¹³ Na another thing wey una do be this, una use tears and weep cover the alter of God because he no accept the offering wey una bring to am.

¹⁴ Una ask am, why he no dey accept them again. Na because him know say una don break the promise wey una make with the wife wey una marry when una dey young. She be una partner, and una don break your promise to her, although una promise for God presence say una go dey faithful to her.

¹⁵ Shey God never make you one body and spirit with her? Wetin be him purpose for this? Na for una to get children wey be God people for real. So, make una dey sure say none of una break him promise to him wife.

¹⁶ The LORD, God of Israel talk say, “I hate divorce.” I hate am when one of una do that kind terrible thing to him wife. Make una dey sure say una no break una promise so that una go dey faithful to una wife.”

¹⁷ Una don teach wrong things, and e dey make God very sad. People dey do evil things, but una talk say, God dey happy with am and say him accept those things. And una think say God no dey punish people for the evil dem do.
