1 ENYIN ọmọ, ẹ gbọ́ ẹkọ́ baba, ki ẹ si fiyesi ati mọ̀ oye.

1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2 Nitori ti mo fun nyin li ẹkọ rere, ẹ máṣe kọ̀ ofin mi silẹ.

2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

3 Nitoripe ọmọ baba mi li emi iṣe, ẹni-ikẹ́ ati olufẹ li oju iya mi.

3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4 On si kọ́ mi pẹlu, o si wi fun mi pe, jẹ ki aiya rẹ ki o gbà ọ̀rọ mi duro: pa ofin mi mọ́ ki iwọ ki o si yè.

4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

5 Ni ọgbọ́n, ni oye: máṣe gbagbe; bẹ̃ni ki iwọ ki o máṣe fà sẹhin kuro li ọ̀rọ ẹnu mi.

5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6 Máṣe kọ̀ ọ silẹ, yio si mu ọ tọ́: fẹ ẹ, yio si pa ọ mọ́.

6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 Ipilẹṣẹ ọgbọ́n ni lati ni ọgbọ́n: ati pẹlu ini rẹ gbogbo, ni oye.

7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8 Gbé e ga, on o si ma gbé ọ lekè: on o mu ọ wá si ọlá, nigbati iwọ ba gbá a mọra.

8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9 On o fi ohun-ọṣọ́ daradara si ọ li ori: on o fi ọjá daradara fun ori rẹ.

9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

10 Gbọ́, iwọ ọmọ mi, ki o si gbà ọ̀rọ mi; ọdun ẹmi rẹ yio si di pipọ.

10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

11 Emi ti kọ́ ọ li ọ̀na ọgbọ́n; emi ti mu ọ tọ̀ ipa-ọ̀na titọ.

11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

12 Nigbati iwọ nrìn, ọ̀na rẹ kì yio há fun àye; nigbati iwọ nsare, iwọ kì yio fi ẹsẹ kọ.

12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 Di ẹkọ́ mu ṣinṣin, máṣe jẹ ki o lọ; pa a mọ́, nitori on li ẹmi rẹ.

13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

14 Máṣe bọ si ipa-ọ̀na enia buburu, má si ṣe rìn li ọ̀na awọn enia ibi.

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

15 Yẹ̀ ẹ silẹ, máṣe kọja ninu rẹ̀, yẹ̀ kuro nibẹ, si ma ba tirẹ lọ.

15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16 Nitoriti nwọn kì isùn bikoṣepe nwọn hùwa buburu; orun wọn a si dá, bikoṣepe nwọn ba mu enia ṣubu.

16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 Nitori ti nwọn njẹ onjẹ ìwa-ika, nwọn si nmu ọti-waini ìwa-agbara.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

18 Ṣugbọn ipa-ọ̀na awọn olõtọ dabi titàn imọlẹ, ti o ntàn siwaju ati siwaju titi di ọsangangan.

18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19 Ọna awọn enia buburu dabi òkunkun: nwọn kò mọ̀ ohun ti nwọn ndugbolu.

19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

20 Ọmọ mi, fetisi ọ̀rọ mi; dẹti rẹ silẹ si ọ̀rọ mi.

20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 Máṣe jẹ ki nwọn ki o lọ kuro li oju rẹ; pa wọn mọ́ li ãrin aiya rẹ.

21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 Nitori ìye ni nwọn iṣe fun awọn ti o wá wọn ri, ati imularada si gbogbo ẹran-ara wọn.

22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23 Jù gbogbo ohun ipamọ́, pa aiya rẹ mọ́; nitoripe lati inu rẹ̀ wá ni orisun ìye.

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24 Mu arekereke kuro lọdọ rẹ, ati ète ẹ̀tan jina rére kuro lọdọ rẹ.

24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

25 Jẹ ki oju rẹ ki o ma wò ọkankan gan, ki ipenpeju rẹ ki o ma wò gan niwaju rẹ.

25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26 Ronu ipa-ọ̀na rẹ, gbogbo ọ̀na rẹ ni yio si fi idi mulẹ.

26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 Máṣe yà si apa ọtun tabi si apa òsi, ṣi ẹsẹ rẹ kuro ninu ibi.

27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
