1 WỌNYI pẹlu li owe Solomoni, ti awọn ọkunrin Hesekiah, ọba Judah kọ silẹ.

1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

2 Ogo Ọlọrun ni lati pa ọ̀ran mọ́: ṣugbọn ọlá awọn ọba ni lati wadi ọ̀ran.

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

3 Ọrun fun giga, ati ilẹ fun jijin bẹ̃ni a kò le iwadi aiya awọn ọba.

3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

4 Mu idarọ kuro ninu fadaka, ohun-elo yio si jade fun alagbẹdẹ fadaka.

4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

5 Mu enia buburu kuro niwaju ọba, a o si fi idi itẹ́ rẹ̀ kalẹ ninu ododo.

5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6 Máṣe ṣefefe niwaju ọba, má si ṣe duro ni ipò awọn enia nla.

6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

7 Nitoripe, o san ki a wi fun ọ pe, wá soke nihin, jù ki a fà ọ tì sẹhin niwaju ọmọ-alade ti oju rẹ ti ri.

7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

8 Máṣe jade lọ kankan lati jà, ki iwọ ki o má ba ṣe alaimọ̀ eyiti iwọ o ṣe li opin rẹ̀, nigbati aladugbo rẹ yio dojutì ọ.

8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

9 Ba ẹnikeji rẹ ja ìja rẹ̀; ṣugbọn aṣiri ẹlomiran ni iwọ kò gbọdọ fihàn.

9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

10 Ki ẹniti o ba gbọ́ ki o má ba dojuti ọ, ẹ̀gan rẹ kì yio si lọ kuro lai.

10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

11 Bi eso igi wura ninu agbọ̀n fadaka, bẹ̃ni ọ̀rọ ti a sọ li akoko rẹ̀.

11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

12 Bi oruka wura ati ohun ọṣọ́ wura daradara, bẹ̃li ọlọgbọ́n olubaniwi li eti igbọràn.

12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

13 Bi otutu òjo-didì ni ìgba ikore, bẹ̃ni olõtọ ikọ̀ si awọn ti o rán a: nitoriti o tù awọn oluwa rẹ̀ ninu.

13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

14 Ẹnikẹni ti o ba ṣefefe ninu ẹ̀bun ẹ̀tan, o dabi awọsanma ati afẹfẹ ti kò ni òjo.

14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

15 Ipamọra pipẹ li a fi iyi ọmọ-alade li ọkàn pada, ahọn ti o kunna ni ifọ egungun.

15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

16 Bi iwọ ba ri oyin, jẹ eyi ti o to fun ọ, ki o má ba su ọ, iwọ a si bì i.

16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

17 Fà ẹṣẹ sẹhin kuro ni ile aladugbo rẹ; ki agara rẹ o má ba da a, on a si korira rẹ.

17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

18 Ẹniti o jẹri eke si ẹnikeji rẹ̀, ni olugboro, ati idà, ati ọfà mimu.

18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

19 Igbẹkẹle alaiṣõtọ enia ni ìgba ipọnju, o dabi ehin ti o ṣẹ́, ati ẹsẹ̀ ti o yẹ̀ lori ike.

19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

20 Bi ẹniti o bọ aṣọ nigba otutu, ati bi ọti-kikan ninu ẽru, bẹ̃li ẹniti nkọrin fun ẹniti inu rẹ̀ bajẹ.

20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

21 Bi ebi ba npa ọta rẹ, fun u li onjẹ; bi ongbẹ ba si gbẹ ẹ, fun u li ohun mimu.

21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 Nitoriti iwọ o kó ẹyin iná jọ si ori rẹ̀, Oluwa yio san fun ọ.

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

23 Afẹfẹ ariwa mu òjo wá, bẹ̃li ahọn isọ̀rọ-ẹni-lẹhin imu oju kikoro wá.

23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

24 O san lati joko ni igun òke àja, jù pẹlu onija obinrin lọ ninu ile ajumọgbe.

24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

25 Bi omi tutu si ọkàn ti ongbẹ ngbẹ, bẹ̃ni ihin-rere lati ilu okere wá.

25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

26 Olododo ti o ṣipo pada niwaju enia buburu, o dabi orisun ti o wú, ati isun-omi ti o bajẹ.

26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

27 Kò dara lati mã jẹ oyin pupọ: bẹni kò dara lati mã wa ogo ara ẹni.

27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

28 Ẹniti kò le ṣe akoso ara rẹ̀, o dabi ilu ti a wo lulẹ, ti kò si li odi.

28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
