1 IWỌ máṣe ilara si awọn enia buburu, bẹ̃ni ki o má si ṣe fẹ lati ba wọn gbe.

1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

2 Nitoriti aiya wọn ngbiro iparun, ète wọn si nsọ̀rọ ìwa-ika.

2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

3 Ọgbọ́n li a fi ikọ ile; oye li a si fi ifi idi rẹ̀ kalẹ.

3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:

4 Nipa ìmọ ni iyará fi ikún fun oniruru ọrọ̀ iyebiye ati didùn.

4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

5 Ọlọgbọ́n enia li agbara: nitõtọ enia ìmọ a sọ agbara rẹ̀ di pupọ.

5 A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

6 Nitori nipa ìgbimọ ọgbọ́n ni iwọ o fi ṣigun rẹ: ati ninu ọ̀pọlọpọ ìgbimọ ni iṣẹgun.

6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellers there is safety.

7 Ọgbọ́n ga jù aṣiwère lọ: on kì yio yà ẹnu rẹ̀ ni ẹnu-bode.

7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

8 Ẹniti nhùmọ ati ṣe ibi li a o pè li enia ìwa-ika.

8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

9 Ironu wère li ẹ̀ṣẹ; irira ninu enia si li ẹlẹgàn.

9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

10 Bi iwọ ba rẹwẹsi li ọjọ ipọnju, agbara rẹ ko to nkan.

10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

11 Bi iwọ ba fà sẹhin ati gbà awọn ti a wọ́ lọ sinu ikú, ati awọn ti a yàn fun pipa.

11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

12 Ti iwọ si wipe, wò o, awa kò mọ̀ ọ; kò ha jẹ pe ẹniti ndiwọ̀n ọkàn nkiyesi i? ati ẹniti npa ọkàn rẹ mọ́, on li o mọ̀, yio si san a fun enia gẹgẹ bi iṣẹ rẹ̀.

12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

13 Ọmọ mi, jẹ oyin, nitoriti o dara; ati afara oyin, ti o dùn li ẹnu rẹ:

13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:

14 Bẹ̃ni ìmọ ọgbọ́n yio ri si ọkàn rẹ: bi iwọ ba ri i, nigbana ni ère yio wà, a kì yio si ke ireti rẹ kuro.

14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

15 Máṣe ba ni ibuba bi enia buburu, lati gba ibujoko olododo: máṣe fi ibi isimi rẹ̀ ṣe ijẹ.

15 Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

16 Nitoripe olõtọ a ṣubu nigba meje, a si tun dide: ṣugbọn enia buburu yio ṣubu sinu ibi.

16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

17 Máṣe yọ̀ nigbati ọta rẹ ba ṣubu, má si ṣe jẹ ki inu rẹ ki o dùn nigbati o ba kọsẹ̀:

17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

18 Ki Oluwa ki o má ba ri i, ki o si buru li oju rẹ̀, on a si yi ibinu rẹ̀ pada kuro lori rẹ̀.

18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

19 Máṣe ilara si awọn enia buburu, má si ṣe jowu enia buburu.

19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;

20 Nitoripe, ère kì yio si fun enia ibi; fitila enia buburu li a o pa.

20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

21 Ọmọ mi, iwọ bẹ̀ru Oluwa ati ọba: ki iwọ ki o má si ṣe dàpọ mọ awọn ti nṣe ayidayida.

21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

22 Nitoripe wàhala wọn yio dide lojiji, ati iparun awọn mejeji, tali o mọ̀ ọ!

22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

23 Wọnyi pẹlu ni ọ̀rọ awọn ọlọgbọ́n. Kò dara lati ṣe ojuṣãju ni idajọ.

23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

24 Ẹniti o ba wi fun enia buburu pe, olododo ni iwọ; on ni awọn enia yio bú, awọn orilẹ-ède yio si korira rẹ̀.

24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:

25 Ṣugbọn awọn ti o ba a wi ni yio ni inu-didùn, ibukún rere yio si bọ̀ sori wọn.

25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

26 Yio dabi ẹniti o ṣe ifẹnukonu: ẹniti o ba ṣe idahùn rere.

26 Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

27 Mura iṣẹ rẹ silẹ lode, ki o si fi itara tulẹ li oko rẹ; nikẹhin eyi, ki o si kọ́ ile rẹ.

27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

28 Máṣe ẹlẹri si ẹnikeji rẹ lainidi: ki iwọ ki o má si ṣe fi ète rẹ ṣẹ̀tan.

28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.

29 Máṣe wipe, bẹ̃li emi o ṣe si i, gẹgẹ bi o ti ṣe si mi: emi o san a fun ọkunrin na gẹgẹ bi iṣẹ rẹ̀.

29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

30 Mo kọja lọ li oko ọlẹ, ati lẹba ọgbà-ajara ẹniti oye kù fun:

30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31 Si kiyesi i, ẹgún kún bo gbogbo rẹ̀, igbó si bo oju rẹ̀, iganna okuta rẹ̀ si wo lulẹ.

31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

32 Nigbana ni mo ri, mo si fi ọkàn mi si i gidigidi: mo wò o, mo si gbà ẹkọ́.

32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

33 Orun diẹ si i, õgbe diẹ, ikawọkòpọ lati sùn diẹ.

33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

34 Bẹ̃li òṣi rẹ yio de bi ẹniti nrìn; ati aini rẹ bi ọkunrin ti o hamọra ogun.

34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
