1 BI òjo-didì ni ìgba ẹrun, ati bi òjo ni ìgba ikore, bẹ̃li ọlá kò yẹ fun aṣiwère.

1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

2 Bi ẹiyẹ fun iṣikiri, ati alapandẹdẹ fun fifò, bẹ̃ni egún kì yio wá lainidi.

2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

3 Lagbà fun ẹṣin, ijanu fun kẹtẹkẹtẹ, ati ọgọ fun ẹhin aṣiwère.

3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.

4 Máṣe da aṣiwère lohùn gẹgẹ bi wère rẹ̀, ki iwọ pãpa ki o má ba dabi rẹ̀.

4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

5 Da aṣiwère lohùn gẹgẹ bi wère rẹ̀, ki on ki o má ba gbọ́n li oju ara rẹ̀.

5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

6 Ẹniti o rán iṣẹ nipa ọwọ aṣiwère, o ke ẹsẹ ara rẹ̀ kuro, o si jẹ ara rẹ̀ niya.

6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.

7 Bi ẹsẹ mejeji ti rọ̀ silẹ lara amukun, bẹ̃li owe li ẹnu awọn aṣiwère.

7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

8 Bi ẹniti o fi àpo okuta iyebiye sinu okiti okuta, bẹ̃li ẹniti nfi ọlá fun aṣiwère.

8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.

9 Bi ẹgún ti igún ọmuti lọwọ, bẹ̃li owe li ẹnu awọn aṣiwère.

9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

10 Bi tafatafa ti o mu gbogbo enia gbọgbẹ, bẹ̃ni ẹniti o gbà aṣiwère si iṣẹ, ti o si gba awọn olurekọja si iṣẹ-owo.

10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

11 Bi aja ti ipada sinu ẽbì rẹ̀, bẹ̃li aṣiwère itun pada sinu wère rẹ̀.

11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

12 Iwọ ri ẹnikan ti o gbọ́n li oju ara rẹ̀? ireti mbẹ fun aṣiwère jù fun u lọ.

12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

13 Ọlẹ enia wipe, Kiniun mbẹ li ọ̀na; kiniun mbẹ ni igboro.

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

14 Bi ilẹkun ti iyi lori ìwakun rẹ̀, bẹ̃li ọlẹ lori ẹní rẹ̀.

14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.

15 Ọlẹ pa ọwọ rẹ̀ mọ́ sinu iṣãsun; kò si le yọ ọ jade pada wá si ẹnu rẹ̀.

15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

16 Ọlẹ gbọ́n li oju ara rẹ̀ jù enia meje lọ ti nwọn le fi ọgbọ́n dahùn ọ̀ran.

16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

17 Ẹniti nkọja lọ, ti o si dasi ìja ti kì iṣe tirẹ̀, o dabi ẹniti o mu ajá leti.

17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

18 Bi asiwin ti nsọ ọ̀kọ, ọfa ati ikú,

18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,

19 Bẹ̃li ẹniti o tan ẹnikeji rẹ̀ jẹ, ti o si wipe, Iré ha kọ li emi nṣe?

19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

20 Nigbati igi tan, ina a kú, bẹ̃ni nigbati olofofo kò si, ìja a da.

20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

21 Bi ẹyin ti ri si ẹyin-iná, ati igi si iná; bẹ̃li enia onijà lati da ìja silẹ.

21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

22 Ọ̀rọ olofofo dabi adidùn, nwọn a si wọ isalẹ inu lọ.

22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

23 Ete jijoni, ati aiya buburu, dabi idarọ fadaka ti a fi bò ìkoko.

23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

24 Ẹniti o ba korira, ti o fi ète rẹ̀ ṣe agabagebe, yio si pa ẹ̀tan mọ́ ninu rẹ̀.

24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

25 Nigbati o ba sọ̀rọ daradara, máṣe gbà a gbọ́: nitoripe irira meje li o wà li aiya rẹ̀,

25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

26 Ẹniti a fi ẹ̀tan bò irira rẹ̀ mọlẹ, ìwa-buburu rẹ̀ li a o fi hàn niwaju gbogbo ijọ:

26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

27 Ẹnikẹni ti o ba wà ihò yio ṣubu sinu rẹ̀: ẹniti o ba si nyi okuta, on ni yio pada tọ̀.

27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

28 Ahọn eke korira awọn ti a fi njẹniya; ẹnu ipọnni a si ma ṣiṣẹ iparun.

28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
