1 NIGBATI nwọn si ti kọja Amfipoli ati Apollonia, nwọn wá si Tessalonika, nibiti sinagogu awọn Ju wà:

1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

2 Ati Paulu, gẹgẹbi iṣe rẹ̀, o wọle tọ̀ wọn lọ, li ọjọ isimi mẹta o si mba wọn fi ọ̀rọ we ọ̀rọ ninu iwe-mimọ́,

2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

3 O ntumọ, o si nfihàn pe, Kristi kò le ṣaima jìya, ki o si jinde kuro ninu okú; ati pe, Jesu yi, ẹniti emi nwasu fun nyin, on ni Kristi na.

3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

4 A si yi ninu wọn lọkàn pada, nwọn si darapọ̀ mọ́ Paulu on Sila; ati ninu awọn olufọkansìn Hellene ọ̀pọ pupọ, ati ninu awọn obinrin ọlọlá, kì iṣe diẹ.

4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

5 Ṣugbọn awọn Ju jowu, nwọn si fà awọn jagidijagan ninu awọn ijajẹ enia mọra, nwọn gbá ẹgbẹ jọ, nwọn si nrú ilu; nwọn si kọlù ile Jasoni, nwọn nfẹ mu wọn jade tọ̀ awọn enia wá.

5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

6 Nigbati nwọn kò si ri wọn, nwọn wọ́ Jasoni, ati awọn arakunrin kan tọ̀ awọn olori ilu lọ, nwọn nkigbe pe, Awọn wọnyi ti o ti yi aiye po wá si ihinyi pẹlu;

6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

7 Awọn ẹniti Jasoni gbà si ọdọ: gbogbo awọn wọnyi li o si nhuwa lodi si aṣẹ Kesari, wipe, ọba miran kan wà, Jesu.

7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

8 Awọn enia ati awọn olori ilu kò ni ibalẹ aiya nigbati nwọn gbọ́ nkan wọnyi.

8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

9 Nigbati nwọn si gbà ogò lọwọ Jasoni ati awọn iyokù, nwọn jọwọ lọ.

9 And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

10 Lọgan awọn arakunrin si rán Paulu on Sila lọ si Berea li oru: nigbati nwọn si de ibẹ̀, nwọn wọ̀ inu sinagogu awọn Ju lọ.

10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11 Awọn wọnyi si ni iyìn jù awọn ti Tessalonika lọ, niti pe nwọn fi tọkantọkan gbà ọ̀rọ na, nwọn si nwá inu iwe-mimọ́ lojojumọ́ bi nkan wọnyi ri bẹ̃.

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

12 Nitorina pipọ ninu wọn gbagbọ́; ati ninu awọn obinrin Hellene ọlọlá, ati ninu awọn ọkunrin, kì iṣe diẹ.

12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

13 Ṣugbọn nigbati awọn Ju ti Tessalonika mọ̀ pe, Paulu nwasu ọ̀rọ Ọlọrun ni Berea, nwọn si wá sibẹ̀ pẹlu, nwọn rú awọn enia soke.

13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

14 Nigbana li awọn arakunrin rán Paulu jade lọgan lati lọ titi de okun: Ṣugbọn Sila on Timotiu duro sibẹ̀.

14 And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.

15 Awọn ti o sin Paulu wá si mu u lọ titi de Ateni; nigbati nwọn si gbà aṣẹ lọdọ rẹ̀ tọ̀ Sila on Timotiu wá pe, ki nwọn ki o yára tọ̀ on wá, nwọn lọ.

15 And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

16 Nigbati Paulu duro dè wọn ni Ateni, ọkàn rẹ̀ rú ninu rẹ̀, nigbati o ri pe ilu na kún fun oriṣa.

16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

17 Nitorina o mba awọn Ju fi ọ̀rọ̀ we ọ̀rọ̀ ninu sinagogu, ati awọn olufọkansin, ati awọn ti o mba pade lọja lojojumọ.

17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

18 Ninu awọn Epikurei pẹlu, ati awọn ọjọgbọ́n Stoiki kótì i. Awọn kan si nwipe, Kili alahesọ yi yio ri wi? awọn miran si wipe, O dabi oniwasu ajeji oriṣa: nitoriti o nwasu Jesu, on ajinde fun wọn.

18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

19 Nwọn si mu u, nwọn si fà a lọ si Areopagu, nwọn wipe, A ha le mọ̀ kili ẹkọ́ titun ti iwọ nsọrọ rẹ̀ yi jẹ́.

19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

20 Nitoriti iwọ mu ohun ajeji wá si etí wa: awa si nfẹ mọ̀ kini itumọ nkan wọnyi.

20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

21 Nitori gbogbo awọn ará Ateni, ati awọn alejò ti nṣe atipo nibẹ kì iṣe ohun miran jù, ki a mã sọ tabi ki a ma gbọ́ ohun titun lọ.

21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

22 Paulu si dide duro larin Areopagu, o ni, Ẹnyin ará Ateni, mo woye pe li ohun gbogbo ẹ kun fun oniruru isin ju.

22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

23 Nitori bi mo ti nkọja lọ, ti mo wò ohun wọnni ti ẹnyin nsìn, mo si ri pẹpẹ kan ti a kọ akọle yi si, FUN ỌLỌRUN AIMỌ̀. Njẹ ẹniti ẹnyin nsìn li aimọ̀ on na li emi nsọ fun nyin.

23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

24 Ọlọrun na ti o da aiye ati ohun gbogbo ti mbẹ ninu rẹ̀, on na ti iṣe Oluwa ọrun on aiye, kì igbé ile ti a fi ọwọ́ kọ́;

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25 Bẹ̃ni a kì ifi ọwọ́ enia sìn i, bi ẹnipe o nfẹ nkan, on li o fi ìye ati ẽmi ati ohun gbogbo fun gbogbo enia,

25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26 O si ti fi ẹ̀jẹ kanna da gbogbo orilẹ-ede lati tẹ̀do si oju agbaiye, o si ti pinnu akokò ti a yàn tẹlẹ, ati àla ibugbe wọn;

26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

27 Ki nwọn ki o le mã wá Oluwa, boya bi ọkàn wọn ba le fà si i, ti wọn si ri i, bi o tilẹ ṣe pe kò jina si olukuluku wa:

27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

28 Nitori ninu rẹ̀ li awa gbé wà li ãye, ti awa nrìn kiri, ti a si li ẹmí wa; bi awọn kan ninu awọn olorin, ẹnyin tikaranyin ti wipe, Awa pẹlu si jẹ ọmọ rẹ̀.

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29 Njẹ bi awa ba ṣe ọmọ Ọlọrun, kò yẹ fun wa ki a rò pe, Iwa-Ọlọrun dabi wura, tabi fadaka, tabi okuta, ti a fi ọgbọ́n ati ihumọ enia ṣe li ọnà.

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

30 Pẹlupẹlu igba aimọ̀ yi li Ọlọrun ti foju fò da; ṣugbọn nisisiyi o paṣẹ fun gbogbo enia nibi gbogbo lati ronupiwada:

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

31 Niwọnbi o ti da ọjọ kan, ninu eyi ti yio ṣe idajọ aiye li ododo, nipasẹ ọkunrin na ti o ti yàn, nigbati o ti fi ohun idaniloju fun gbogbo enia, niti o jí i dide kuro ninu okú.

31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

32 Nigbati nwọn ti gbọ́ ti ajinde okú, awọn miran nṣẹ̀fẹ: ṣugbọn awọn miran wipe, Awa o tún nkan yi gbọ́ li ẹnu rẹ.

32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

33 Bẹ̃ni Paulu si jade kuro larin wọn.

33 So Paul departed from among them.

34 Ṣugbọn awọn ọkunrin kan fi ara mọ́ ọ, nwọn si gbagbọ́: ninu awọn ẹniti Dionisiu ara Areopagu wà, ati obinrin kan ti a npè ni Damari, ati awọn miran pẹlu wọn.

34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
