Proverbs 30

Na wise words of Agur son of Jakeh be these: “God no dey with me, God no dey with me, and I no get help.

I be more like animal pass human being; I no get sense wey human being suppose get.

I never learn any wisdom, and I no know anything at all about God.

Who don ever master heavenly knowledge? Who don ever catch the wind for him hand? Or who don ever wrap up water for piece of cloth? Or who don ever fix the boundaries of the earth? Who he be, if you know? Who be him son?

“God dey keep every promise wey he make. Na shield he be for everybody wey seek him protection.

If you claim say he talk something wey he never talk, he go reject you and he go show you say you be liar.”

God, I dey ask you, make you allow me get two things before I die:

Make you no allow me dey lie, and make I no dey rich or poor. Just give me enough food wey I need.

If I get plenty, I fit dey talk say I no need you. But if I dey poor, I fit steal and bring shame on my God.

No condemn servants to their master. Dem go curse you and you go suffer for am.

Some people dey wey curse their papa and wey no appreciate their mama.

Some people dey wey think say dem dey pure when dem dey dirty as dem fit be.

Some people dey wey dey think say dem dey too good – dem thinks say dem be the best!

Some people dey wey take wicked advantage of the poor and needy; na the way wey dem dey make their living be that.

Na only two things greedy people know: “Give me,” and “Give me.” Four things dey wey no dey get satisfied:

The world of the dead, a woman wey no get children, dry ground wey need rain, and a fire wey dey burn out of control.

Those wey dey make fun of their papa or no gree obey their mama, na vulture suppose chop them or make terrible bird commot their eyes.

Four things dey wey dey too strange for me to understand:

Eagle wey dey fly for sky, a snake wey dey move on top rock, a ship wey dey find him way on top the sea, and a man and a woman wey don fall in love.

Na like this be the wife wey no dey faithful dey do: she dey commit adultery, she go bath, and say, “But I never do anything wrong!”

Four things dey wey the earth no fit take:

A slave wey become king, a fool wey get everything wey he wan chop,

A woman wey him husband hate but he still marry her, and a servant woman wey take the place of her mistress.

E get four things on top earth wey small, but wise:

Ants small and dem weak, but dem dey store up their food for summer.

Rock-badgers: dem no strong too, but dem dey make their home among the rocks.

Locusts: dem no get king, but dem dey move in formation.

Lizards small wey be say you fit hold them for hand, but you fit find them for palace.

Four things dey wey dey impress person to watch as dem dey waka:

Lions, the one wey strong pass among all animals and wey no dey fear anyone;

Cock wey dey waka with pride, goats, and a king wey dey for front of him people.

If you don dey foolish enough to dey use strong-head and plan evil, stop and think!

If you stir milk, you go get butter. If you hit someone for nose, blood go commot. If you cause anger, you go enter trouble.
