Numbers 5

¹ God tell Moses say,

² “Command people of Israel make dem chase anyone wey no dey clean commot from the camp, anyone wey get serious skin disease or discharge and anyone wey don touch dead body.

³ Whether na man or woman, send them away so that the camp wey I dey live among una no go dey unclean.”

⁴ Naso dem obey God command. Dem send those people outside camp. Dem do wetin God don tell Moses.

⁵ God give Moses

⁶ the instruction wey follow for people of Israel. When person no dey faithful to God and do wrong against someone,

⁷ make he confess him sin and make full repayment, plus additional twenty percent, to the person wey he don do wrong.

⁸ But if the person don die and no get close relative wey dem fit give the payment, make he give am to God for the priest. Make he add this payment join the ram wey dem go use perform ritual of purification for the person wey dey guilty.

⁹ If any of una Israelites give God special gift, the priest wey collect am fit keep am. Na him get am.

¹⁰ Una no need to give these special gifts, but if una do, the gift na the priest own.

¹¹ God command Moses

¹⁴ make he give Israelites the instruction wey follow. E fit happen say a man dey suspect say him wife dey cheat on him, and she dey have sex with another man. But the husband fit no dey sure, because him wife fit dey hide am from him - as witness no dey, and he no catch her red handed. Or e fit happen say a man dey suspect him wife, even though she dey faithful.

¹⁵ For any of the case, make the man take him wife to the priest. He go also take offering of one kilogram of barley flour, but he no go pour any olive oil or put incense on am, because na offering from a husband wey dey suspect wife, so that e go bring truth come out.

¹⁶ The priest go bring the woman come front and make her stand for front of altar.

¹⁷ He go put some holy water inside clay bowl and take some dirt from Holy Tent floor, and put am inside the water to make am bitter.

¹⁸ He go come loose the woman hair and put the flour offering for her hand. For him hand, the priest go hold the bowl wey water dey inside, wey dey bring curse.

¹⁹ The priest go make the woman promise to talk true and tell her say: “If you never commit adultery, the curse wey this water dey bring no go harm you.

²⁰ But if you don sin against your husband – if you don have sex with a man wey no be your husband – then you no dey pure.

²¹ If na true, you go get trouble when you drink this holy water. You no go fit get any children. And if you get belle now, your baby go die. And God go make your people dey talk evil about you and curse you. Then the priest go tell the woman make she take oath. She go agree make God allow these things to happen to her if she lie.

²² The priest must say, “You must drink this water wey dey cause trouble. If you don sin, you no go fit get children. Any baby wey you get go die before you born am.” And the woman go say, “I agree to do as you talk”

²³ The priest go write the curse on top scroll, and wash am inside the water.

²⁴ Before he make the woman drink the water, wey fit cause her bitter pain,

²⁵ the priest go collect the flour offering from the woman hand, hold am out for dedication to God, and present am on top altar.

²⁶ He go come take full hand of am as a token offering and burn am on top altar. Finally, he go make the woman drink the water.

²⁷ If she don commit adultery, the water go cause her bitter pain; her belle go swell up, and her sex organ go shrink. Her name go become curse among her people.

²⁸ But if she dey innocent, nothing go happen to her and she go fit get children.

29-

³⁰ Na the law for case where a man dey jealous and dey suspect him wife say she don commit adultery. Dem go make the woman stand for front of altar, and the priest go perform this ritual.

³¹ The husband go dey free of guilt, but if the woman dey guilty, she go suffer the consequence.
