Judges 7

¹ One day Gideon and him army stand up early and dem camp beside the spring of Harod. The Midianite camp dey for the valley to the north of where dem dey by the hill of Moreh.

² God tell Gideon say, “The men wey you get too plenty for me to give them victory over the Midianite. Dem fit think say dem don win by themselves, and dem no go give me credit.

³ Tell the people say, ‘Make anybody wey dey fear go back home, and we go stay for here for Mount Gilead.’” Naso 22,000 of them go back, but 10,000 con stay.

⁴ God con tell Gideon say, “You still get plenty men! Make you take them down to the water, and I go separate them for there for you. If I tell you say make a man dey go with you, he go follow you.”

⁵ Gideon take the men to the water, and God tell him say, “Separate everyone wey dey drink water with him tongue like dog, from everyone wey get down on him knees to drink water.”

⁶ Na 300 men use their hand fetch water and drink am with tongue like dog; all the others get down with knees to drink.

⁷ God tell Gideon say, “I go rescue you and I go give you victory over the Midianites with the 300 men wey drink water with tongue. Make you tell everyone else to go home.”

⁸ Naso Gideon send all the Israelites go home, except the 300, wey keep the supplies and trumpets. The Midianite camp dey below them for the valley.

⁹ God con command Gideon that night say, “Stand up and attack the camp; I dey give you victory over am.

¹⁰ But if you dey fear to attack, make you go down to the camp with your servant Purah.

¹¹ You go hear wetin dem dey talk, and then you go get the courage to attack.” Naso Gideon and him servant Purah go down to the edge of the enemy camp.

¹² The Midianites, Amalekites, and the desert people con spread out in the valley like plenty locust, and dem get plenty camel like grains of sand for seashore.

¹³ When Gideon reach there, he hear a man dey tell a friend about a dream. He dey talk say, “I dream say a loaf of bread roll enter our camp and hit a tent. The tent con spoil and fall for ground.”

¹⁴ Him friend reply say, “Na the sword of the Israelite, Gideon son of Joash! E no fit mean anything else! God don give him victory over Midian and all our army!”

¹⁵ When Gideon hear about the man dream and wetin e mean, he fall to him knees and worship God. Then he con go back to the Israelites camp and talk say, “Make una stand up! God dey give una victory over the Midianite army!”

¹⁶ He con divide him 300 men into three groups and give a trumpet and a jar with a torch for inside am to each man.

¹⁷ He tell them say, “Make una watch me, when I don get to the edge of the camp, and make una do wetin I do.

¹⁸ When my group and I don blow our trumpet, make una blow una own all round the camp and make una shout, ‘For God and for Gideon!’”

¹⁹ Gideon and him hundred men con reach the edge of the camp short time before midnight, just after dem don change the guard. Dem blow the trumpets and dem break the jars wey dem dey hold,

²⁰ And the other two groups too con do the same. All of them dey hold the torch for the left-hands, the trumpet for their right, and dem shout say, “A sword for God and for Gideon!”

²¹ Every man dey stand for him place round the camp, and all the enemy army begin dey shout and run away.

²² As the men of Gideon dey blow their trumpets, God dey make the enemy army dey attack each other with swords. Dem run dey face Zarethan reach Beth Shittah, far reach the town of Abel Meholah near Tabbath.

²³ Dem con call out men from the tribes of Naphtali, Asher, and both parts of Manasseh, and dem pursue the Midianites.

²⁴ Gideon send messengers through all the hill country of Ephraim make dem talk say, “Make una come fight Midianites. Make una hold River Jordan and the streams reach Bethbarah, so that una no go allow Midianites cross them.” Dem call the men of Ephraim together, and dem hold River Jordan and the stream reach Bethbarah.

²⁵ Dem capture the two Midianite chief, Oreb and Zeeb; dem kill Oreb for Oreb Rock, and Zeeb for the Winepress of Zeeb. Dem continue dey pursue the Midianites and dem bring the head of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon, wey don dey east of Jordan.
