Judges 14

¹ One day Samson go Timnah, where he notice one Philistine woman.

² He go back home and tell him papa and mama say, “A Philistine woman dey for Timnah wey don catch my attention. Make una get her for me; I wan marry her.”

³ But him papa and mama ask him say, “Why you wan go get wife from those Philistine wey no get heart? Shey you no fit find a girl from our own clan, among all our people?” But Samson tell him papa say, “She be the one wey I wan make una get for me. I like her.”

⁴ Him parents no know say na God dey lead Samson make he do this, because God dey look for chance to fight Philistine. Na Philistine dey rule Israel for this time.

⁵ Naso Samson go down to Timnah with him papa and mama. As dem dey go through the vineyards there, he hear a young lion dey cry.

⁶ Power of God con make Samson dey strong, and he tear the lion with only him hand, like say na young goat. But he no tell him parents wetin he don do.

⁷ He go talk to the woman, and he like her.

⁸ A few days later Samson go back to marry her. As he dey go, he leave the road to go check the lion wey he don kill, and he dey surprised to find plenty bees and some honey inside the lion dead body.

⁹ He commot the honey out to him hands and chop am as he dey waka go. He con go meet him papa and mama and give them some. Dem chop am, but Samson no tell them say na from dead body of lion wey he take the honey.

¹⁰ Him papa con go the woman house, and Samson do party for there. Na normal thing e be for young men to do.

¹¹ When the Philistine see him, dem send thirty young men make dem stay with him,

¹² Samson tell them say, “Make I ask una a riddle. I go bet each of una with a piece of fine linen and change of fine clothe say una no fit tell me hin meaning before the seven days of the wedding party go pass.”

¹³ Dem talk say “Tell us your riddle,” “Make we hear am.”

¹⁴ He talk say, “Out of the one wey dey eat, something come out wey person fit chop; out of the strong, something wey sweet come out.” Three days later dem still never solve the riddle.

¹⁵ Dem tell Samson wife on the fourth day say, “Make you trick your husband make he tell us wetin the riddle mean. If you no do am, we go burn your papa house and we go burn you with am. Una two invite us so that una fit rob us, no be so?”

¹⁶ Naso Samson wife cry go meet him and talk say, “You no love me! You just hate me! You dey ask my friend riddle and you no tell me wetin e mean.!” He talk say, “Look, I never even tell my papa and mama. Why I go tell you?”

¹⁷ She cry about am for all the seven days of the party. But he con tell her wetin the riddle mean on the seventh day, because she dey disturb him too much for the riddle. Naso she tell the Philistines.

¹⁸ So on the seventh day, before Samson enter bedroom, the men of the city tell him say. “Wetin fit sweet pass honey? Wetin fit strong pass lion?” Samson reply say, “If una never dey farm with my cow, una no go know the answer now.”

¹⁹ Samson con vex. Spirit of God make him strong, and he con go to Ashkelon, where he kill thirty men, rob them, and give their fine clothe to the men wey don solve the riddle. After that, he con go back home, and dey vex with wetin don happen,

²⁰ and dem give him wife to the man wey do him best man for the wedding.
