Joshua 5

¹ All the Amorite kings wey dey west of Jordan and all the Canaanite kings wey dey along Mediterranean Sea hear say God don dry up Jordan until Israel people don cross am. Dem begin dey fear and dem lose their courage because of Israelites.

² God tell Joshua say, “Make knives with soft rock and circumcise Israelites.”

³ Naso Joshua do as God don command him, and he circumcise Israelites at a place dem dey call Circumcision Hill.

⁴ When people of Israel leave Egypt, dem don circumcise all their males. But, for the forty years wey dem dey waka inside desert, dem no circumcise any of their baby boys.

⁵ By the end of that time, all the men wey dey for army when dem commot Egypt don die because dem disobey God.

⁶ And God don swear say, “None of una men go ever live to see the land wey I promise Israel. Na land wey dey rich with milk and honey.

⁷ Dem never circumcise the sons of those men, and na this new generation Joshua circumcise.

⁸ After circumcision don complete, all Israelites stay for the camp until the wounds don heal.

⁹ God tell Joshua say, “Na shame e be for my people to be slave for Egypt, but now I don take away that shame.” Naso the Israelites name the place Gilgal, and e still get that name.

¹⁰ Israel continue to dey camp for Gilgal inside the desert near Jericho, and on the fourteenth day of same month, dem celebrate Passover.

¹¹ The next day, God stop to dey send manna to Israelites every morning, and dem begin dey eat food wey grow for Canaan land.

¹² Dem eat roasted grain and thin bread wey dem dey make with barley wey dem gather from near fields.

¹³ One day, Joshua dey near Jericho when he see a man dey stand for him front. The man dey hold sword, naso Joshua waka go meet him and ask, “Shey na our side you dey or our enemy side?”

¹⁴ The man answer say, “I no dey any side. I dey here because I be commander of God army.” Naso Joshua knee down for him feet and bow down to ground. He say, “I be your servant. Wetin you wan make I do?”

¹⁵ The commander answer say, “Remove your sandals, na holy ground you dey.” Naso Joshua remove him sandals.
