Joshua 2

¹ Joshua choose two men as spies and send them from their camp for Acacia with these instructions: “Make una go across the river and gather plenty information wey una fit gather about all the region, especially about Jericho town.” Naso the spies commot Israelite camp for Acacia and go to Jericho, where dem decide to spend night for house of prostitute wey dem dey call Rahab.

² But somebody find out say dem dey there and tell Jericho king say, “Some Israelite men come here tonight, and dem be spies.”

³ Naso the king send soldiers to Rahab house to go arrest the spies.

⁴ But, Rahab don take the men go the flat wey dey roof of her house and she don hide them under some flax plants wey she dey dry there.

⁵ The soldiers come to her door and ask her say, “Give us the men wey dey your house. Dem be spies.”

⁶ She answer say, “Na true say some men come my house, but I no know where dem come from. Dem don leave before sunset, just before e reach time to close town gate. I no know where dem dey go, but if una follow them quickly, una fit catch them.”

⁷ The guards wey dey for gate allow make the soldiers leave Jericho, but dem close the gate after the soldiers don go. Then the soldiers begin dey go Jordan River to go look for the spies for the place wey people dey cross the river.

⁸ Rahab go back to her roof. The spies never sleep, naso she tell them day:

⁹ I know say God don give Israel this land. Fear dey catch everybody because of una.

¹⁰ We hear how God take dry up Red Sea so that una fit leave Egypt. And we hear how una destroy Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings wey dey for east of Jordan River.

¹¹ We know say the LORD una God dey rule heaven and earth, and we no get the strong mind to fight again.

¹² Abeg promise me for God name say una go dey kind to my family as I don dey kind to una.

¹³ Make una do something to show say una no go allow una people kill my papa and mama and my brother and sister and dem families.

¹⁴ The spies come answer say, “Rahab, if you keep quiet about wetin we dey do, we promise to dey good to una when God give us this land. We pray say, make God kill us, if we no keep our promise!”

¹⁵ Rahab house na part of town wall, and one of her window dey face outside of wall. She give the spies rope and show them the window and tell them say, “Make una use this rope go down the ground outside the wall.

¹⁶ Then make una hide for the hills. The men wey dey look for una no go fit find una for there. Dem go tire and come back after some days, and una fit continue to dey go.”

¹⁷ The spies come talk say: We go keep the promise wey we don make with you, but make you no tell any person why we come here

¹⁸ Na wetin you go do be this. Tie this red rope for your window when we attack, and make your father and mother, and brothers, and every other person wey be part of your family dey here with you.

¹⁹ We go take the blame, if anyone wey dey stay for this house get hurt.

²⁰ But anyone wey commot for your house go die, and e no go be our fault.

²¹ Rahab come promise say, “I go do exactly wetin una talk.” Naso she send them away and tie the red rope to the window.

²² The spies hide for hills for three days as the king soldiers dey find them for road. When the soldiers don give up and return go Jericho,

²³ the two spies go down to Jordan valley and dem cross the river. Dem report to Joshua and tell him everything wey don happen.

²⁴ Dem say, “We dey sure say God don give us all the country. The people wey dey there dey shake every time dem think of us.”
