Jeremiah 39

¹ In the tenth month of the ninth year wey Zedekiah be king of Judah, king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia come with all him army and attack Jerusalem.

² On the ninth day of the fourth month of eleventh month wey Zedekiah be king, dem break through the city wall.

³ {When dem capture Jerusalem, all high official of king of Babylonia come and take their place for the Middle Gate, with Nergal Sarezer, Samgar Nebo, Sarschim, and another Nergal Sarezer.}

⁴ When king Zedekiah and him official see wetin dey happen, dem try escape from the city for night. Dem commot through royal garden way, dem commot for the way wey dey connect the two walls, and dem escape for direction of the Jordan Valley.

⁵ But the army of Babylonia pursue them and dem capture Zedekiah for the lowland near Jericho. Then dem carry am go meet king Nebuchadnezzar, wey dey the city of Riblah for territory of Hamath, and king Nebuchadnezzar sentence him for there.

⁶ He kill son of Zedekiah for Riblah for front of Zedekiah, and he also kill the officials of Judah.

⁷ After that, he pluck out Zedekiah eyes and put him for chain to take him go Babylonia.

⁸ Babylonians burn down the royal palace and house of people, and dem tear down the walls of Jerusalem.

⁹ Finally Nebuzaradan, the officer in commnad take away people wey remain as prisoners go Babylonia, together with those wey don run to him before.

¹⁰ He leave some of the people wey poor pass, wey no get property for the land of Judah and he give them vineyards and field.

¹¹ But king Nebuchadnezzar command Nebuzaradan, the commanding official say, make he give the order wey follow:

¹² “Make una go find Jeremiah and take care of him. Make una no harm him, but make una do anything he want for him.”

¹³ Naso Nebuzaradan, with the high official Nebushazban and Nergal Sarezer and all officers of the king of Babylonia,

¹⁴ Bring me from the palace courtyard. And dem put me under the care of Gedaliah, son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan, wey must dey sure say I get home safe. And naso I stay for there with the people.

¹⁵ When I still dey for prison inside palace courtyard, God tell me

¹⁶ Make I tell Ebedmelech the Ethiopian say the LORD Almighty, God of Israel, don talk say, “Just as I talk say I go do, I go bring destruction on top this city and no be prosperity. And when this happen, you go dey there to see am.

¹⁷ But I, the LORD, go protect you, and those wey you fear no go capture you.

¹⁸ I go keep you safe, and nobody go kill you. You go escape with your life because you don put your trust in me. I, the LORD, don talk.”
