Jeremiah 26

¹ Soon after Jehoiakim son of Josiah become king of Judah,

² God tell me say, “Stand for the court of the Temple and announce everything wey I don tell you make you tell the people wey come from town of Judah to worship for there. Make you no miss anything.

³ Maybe the people go listen and stop their evil way. If dem do, then I go change my mind about the destruction wey I don plan to bring on them for all the evil wey dem do.”

⁴ God tell me make I tell the people say, “I, the LORD, don talk say una must obey me by following the teaching wey I don give una,

⁵ And by paying attention to words of my servants, the prophets, wey I don dey send to una dey say. Una never obey wetin dem talk.

⁶ If una continue to dey disobey me, then I go do wetin I do to Shiloh to this Temple, and all the nation of this world go use the name of this city as curse.”

⁷ The priests, the prophets, and people hear me as I dey say these things inside Temple,

⁸ And as soon as I finish wetin God command me make I say, dem arrest me and shout say, “We suppose kill you for this!

⁹ Why you don talk in the name of the LORD say the Temple go become like Shiloh and say this city goperish and nobody go live inside am?” Then the people come surround me.

¹⁰ When leaders of Judah hear wetin don happen, dem run from royal palace go the Temple andgo where dem dey meet for New Gate.

¹¹ Then the priests and the prophets tell the leaders say and the people say, “We suppose kill this man because he don speak against our city. Una hear him with una own hear.”

¹² Then I talk say, “Na God send me make I announce everything wey una hear me talk against this Temple and this city.

¹³ Una must change the way wey una dey live and the things wey una dey do, and una must obey the LORD una God. If una do so, he go change him mind about destruction wey he don talk say he go bring on top una.

¹⁴ As for me, I dey una hand! Make una do wetin una think say e dey right to me.

¹⁵ But make una dey sure of this: if una kill me, una and people of this city go dey guilty say una kill innocent man, because na God send me to give una this warning.”

¹⁶ Then the leader and the people tell the priest and the prophet say, “Na in the name of the LORD our God this man take follow us talk; make we no kill him.”

¹⁷ After that, some of the elder stand up and tell the people wey don gather say,

¹⁸ “When Hezekiah be king of Judah, prophet Micah of Moresheth tell all the people wetin Almighty God don talk say, ‘Dem go clear Zion like field, Jerusalem go turn waste land and all the Temple hill go turn forest.’

¹⁹ King Hezekiah and people of Judah no kill Micah. Instead, Hezekiah honour God and try get him favor. And God change him mind about disaster wey he don talk say he go bring on top them. Now we wan bring disaster on top ourselves.”

²⁰ (Another man dey, Uriah son Shemaiah from Kiriath Jearim, wey don speak against this city and nation in the name of God as Jeremiah don do.

²¹ When king Jehoiakim and him soldier and official hear about wetin Uriah don talk, the king try kill him. But Uriah hear about am; naso he run commot and escape go Egypt.

²² King Jehoiakim con send Elnathan son of Achbor and some other men go Egypt make dem go get Uriah.

²³ Dem bring him back to King Jehoiakim, wey kill him and throw him body for public burial ground.)

²⁴ But because I get the support of Ahikam son of Shaphan, dem no allow the people take me and kill me.
