Jeremiah 17

¹ God talk say, “People of Judah, na iron pen I take write una sin; na diamond point I take stamp am for una heart and I carve am for corner of una alter.

² Una people dey worship for the altars and the symbol wey dem don set up for goddess Asherah for every green tree, for hilltops

³ And on top the mountain for open country. I go make una enemy take una wealth and una treasure because of the sins wey una don commit throughout the land.

⁴ Una go need to leave the land wey I give una, and I go make una to serve una enemy for the land wey una no know anything about, because my anger be like fire, and e go burn forever.”

⁵ God talk say, “I go condemn those wey turn away from me and put their trust on human being, for strength of mortal

⁶ Dem be like bush for desert, wey dey grow for dry wilderness, for salt ground where nothing else dey grow. Good things no dey happen to them.

⁷ “But I go bless those wey put their trust in me.

⁸ Dem be like trees wey dey grow near river and hin root dey enter water. Fear no dey catch them when hot weather come, because their leave dey stay green; dem no get worry when rain no dey; dem continue dey bear fruit.

⁹ “Who fit understand human heart? Nothing else dey deceive like am, e sick pass wetin fit heal.

¹⁰ I, the LORD, dey search human mind and dey test human heart. I dey treat each one for the way wey him dey live, for wetin him dey do.”

¹¹ Person wey get money through fraud be like bird wey hatch egg wey e no lay. He go lose him riches for the best time of him life, and for end he go be nothing but fool.

¹² Our Temple be like glory throne, wey dey stand on top high mountain from beginning.

¹³ God, na you be Israel hope; shame go catch all those wey abandon you. Dem go disappear like name wey dem write for dust, because dem don abandon you, the LORD, wey be spring of fresh water.

¹⁴ God, heal me and I go dey well completely; rescue me and I go dey perfectly safe, na you be the one wey I praise!

¹⁵ People tell me say, “Where those threats wey God make against us? Make him carry them out now!”

¹⁶ But, God, I no say make you bring disaster on them; I no wish make time of trouble come for them. God you know this; you know wetin I don talk.

¹⁷ Make you no be terror to me; na you be my place of safety when trouble come.

¹⁸ Bring shame on top people wey dey worry me, but make I dey safe, God. No scare me, but make dem dey full of fear. Bring disaster on them and make you break them to pieces.

¹⁹ God tell me say, “Jeremiah, go announce my message for People Gate, where kings of Judah dey enter and leave the city; then make you go to other gates of Jerusalem.

²⁰ Tell the kings and all people of Judah and everybody wey dey live for Jerusalem and wey dey enter these gates, make dem hear wetin I say.

²¹ Tell them say if dem love their lives, make dem no carry any load on Sabbath; make dem no carry anything enter through the gates of Jerusalem

²² Or carry anything commot their house on Sabbath. Make dem no work on Sabbath; make dem dey keep am as holy day, as I don command their ancestor.

²³ Their ancestor no gree listen to me or pay any attention. Instead, dem get strong head; dem no gree obey me or learn from me.

²⁴ “Tell these people say dem must obey all my commands. Make dem no carry any load go this city through gate on Sabbath. Make dem keep the Sabbath as holy day and make dem no do any work at all.

²⁵ Then their kings and princes go enter the gate of Jerusalem and dem go get the same royal power wey David get. People of Judah and Jerusalem go ride inside chariot and on top horse together, and people go always full city of Jerusalem.

²⁶ People go come from town of Judah and from village wey round Jerusalem; dem go come from territory of Benjamin, from foothill, from mountain, and from southern Judah. Dem go bring bring burnt offering and sacrifice, grain offering and incense, even thankofferings come my Temple.

²⁷ But dem must obey me and keep Sabbath as holy day. Make dem no carry any load through the gate of Jerusalem for that day, because if them carry am, I go set the gates of Jerusalem on fire. Fire go burn down palace of Jerusalem, and nobody go fit stop the fire.”
