Genesis 34

¹ One day, Dinah wey be daughter of Jacob and Leah go visit some of the Canaanite woman wey dey live for the area.

² When the local priest, Shechem son of Harmor the Hivite see Dinah, he take her and rape her.

³ But he come fall in love with her and he try make he win her heart with sweet words.

⁴ He come tell him father say get this young girl for me I wan marry her.

⁵ Jacob come hear say Shechem don rape him daughter but since him sons no dey around because dem dey take care of animals inside field, he no talk anything until dem return.

⁶ Hamor wey be Shechems father come discuss the matter with Jacob.

⁷ As Jacob sons dey come from field, when dem hear about am, dem dey shocked and them begin dey vex say Shechem don do that kund thing and he don insult people of Israel as he rape Jacob daughter.

⁸ Hamor come tell him say, "My son Shechem don fall in love with your daughter, abeg allow him make he marry her.

⁹ Make we do agreement between my people and your people. My sons go dey marry your daughters and your sons go dey marry my daughters,

¹⁰ then you fit stay for here, you fit live for anywhere wey you want, you go dey trade freely and you go get your own property.

¹¹ Schechem come tell her brother and her father say, "Abeg do me a favour, tell me any gift wey you want,

¹² and any bride price wey you wan make I pay, and you fit make the bride price dey high as you like. I go give you anything wey you ask, if you go allow me marry her."

¹³ Because Shechem don disgrace their sister Dinah,

¹⁴ Jacob son come answer them with deciet say, "We no fit allow this kind thing, because una no dey circumcised. Na disgrace e go be for our sister to marry a man wey be like you.

¹⁵ But solution dey, if una fit circumcise una men like us,

¹⁶ then we go give una our daughters and we go take your daughters for ourselves. We go live among you and become one people.

¹⁷ But if you no gree, we go take her and we go dey go.

¹⁸ Hamor and him son come agree to wetin dem ask.

¹⁹ Shechem no even waste time to act on wetin dem ask them to do, because he dey desperate about Jacob daughter. Everybody dey respect Shechem for him family.

²⁰ Naso he go with him father, Hamor make he go present the matter to the elders wey dey for town gate.

²¹ Dem say, "Make we invite them make dem dey stay with us and dey trade for free. See, the land dey big enough to contain them, we fit take their daughters as wives and allow them make dem marry our own.

²² But dem go wan stay here and become one people with us, only if we gree to circumcise our men just as dem be.

²³ If we do am, all their anumals and everything wey dem get go become our own. Come, make we agree with them and allow them make dem settle with us.

²⁴ Naso all the men wey dey for town council agree with Hamor and Shechem, and dem circumcise every male wey dey the town.

²⁵ But three days later when their wounds never heal, two of Jacobs sons, Simeon and Levi wey be Dinah brother come take their sword and then enter town. Dem begin dey slaughter every male wey dey there,

²⁶ including Hamor and him son Shechem. Dem kill them with their sword and dem take Dinah from Shechem house and dem return to their camp.

²⁷ The rest of Jacobs sons come arrive, dem see say dem don slaughter all the male wey dey there, dem come steal things from the town because dem don rape their sister.

²⁸ Dem collect all the flocks, herds and donkeys. Everything wey dem fit lay their hands on for inside town and outside for field.

²⁹ Dem steal all their wealth and everything wey dey their house. Dem also take all their children and wives, and dem take them like slaves.

³⁰ Jacob come tell Simeon and Levi say, "Una don bring trouble on me. Now the Cannanites, the Perizzites and everybody else wey dey the land go hate me. I no get many men, if dem join forces together to attack me, dem go destroy our whole family."

³¹ But dem reply him say, "We no fit allow them dey treat our sister like a prostitute."
