Genesis 17

¹ When Abram reach 99 years old, God appear to him and He say, "Na me be Almighty God, obey me and always do wetin dey right.

² I go make my covenant with you and give you many descendants".

³ Abram come bow down with him face touching the ground, God come talk say,

⁴ "I dey make this covenant with you, I promise say you go be ancestor of many nations, your name no go be Abram again, but Abraham because I dey make you ancestor of many nations.

⁶ I go give you many descendants, and some of them go be kings. You go get so many descendants and dem go become nations.

⁷ I go keep my promise to you and your descendants, a fruitful generation for everlasting covenant. I go be your God and God of your descendants.

⁸ I go give to you and your descendants this land wey you be foreigner now, the whole land of Canaan go belong to your descendants forever, and I go be their God.

⁹ God tell Abraham say, "You go agree to keep covenant with me, both you and your descendants for future generations.

¹⁰ You and your descendants must agree to dey circumcise every male pikin among you.

11-

¹² From now on, you must circumcise every baby boy when he reach eight days old, including slaves wey dem born for your house and slaves wey you buy from foreigners. Na this go show say covenant dey between me and you.

¹³ Dem go circumcise each one, na this go be physical sign to show say my covenant wey dey with you na everlasting.

¹⁴ I no go count any male wey dem no circumcise as one of my people, because he never keep covenant with me.

¹⁵ God come tell Abraham say, "Make you no dey call your wife Sarai again, from now, her name na Sarah.

¹⁶ I go bless her and I go give you a son through her, I go bless her and she go become mother of nations and kings go dey among her descendants.

¹⁷ Abraham con bow down with him face touching ground. But he begin to dey laugh when he reason say, "A man fit get pikin when he don reach hundred years old? Sarah fit get pikin at ninety?"

¹⁸ Him come ask God, "Why you no allow Ishmael be my heir?"

¹⁹ He tell am, "No, na Sarah your wife go born you a son and him name go be Isaac. I go keep my covenant with him and him descendants forever. Na everlasting covenant.

²⁰ I don hear your request about Ishmael, so I go bless him, and give him many children and many descendants. Him go be father of twelve princes and I go make great nations of him descendants.

²¹ But I go keep my covenant with your son Isaac wey Sarah go born this time next year.

²² When God don finish to dey talk with Abraham, He con leave am.

²³ That same day, Abraham obey God and he circumcise him son Ishmael, and other men wey dey him house, and even slaves wey dem born for him house and the one wey him buy.

²⁴ Abraham na 99 years old when dem circumcise him,

²⁵ and him son na thirteen years old.

²⁶ Na the same day them circumcise both of them,

²⁷ together with Abraham slaves.
