Ezra 7
1 Plenty years later, when Artaxerxes be emperor of Persia, e get a man wey him name na Ezra. Na like this he take trace him ancestors back to Aaron, the High Priest: Ezra na son of Seraiah. Seraiah na son of Azariah. Azariah na son of Hilkiah,
2 Hilkiah na son of Shallum. Shallum na son of Zadok. Zadok na son of Ahitub,
3 Ahitub na son of Amariah. Amariah na son of Azariah. Azariah na son of Meraioth,
4 Maraioth na son of Zerahiah. Zerahiah na son of Uzzi. Uzzi na son of Bukki,
5 Bukki na son of Abishua. Abishua na son of Phineehas. Phineehas na son of Eleazar. Eleazar na son of Aaron.
6 Ezra na teacher wey get good knowledge of law wey the LORD, the God of Israel, don give to Moses. Because Ezra get the blessing of the LORD him God, the emperor give him everything wey he ask for.
7 For the seventh year of the time wey Artaxerxes dey reign, Ezra begin dey leave Babylonia for Jerusalem with a group of Israelites wey include priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and temple servants.
8 Dem commot for Babylonia on the first day of the first month,
9 And with help of God dem arrive for Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month.
10 Ezra don commit him life to dey study the law of God, to dey practice am, and to dey teach all the laws and regulations to the people of Israel.
11 Artaxerxes don give the document wey follow to Ezra, the priest and teacher, wey get better knowledge of the laws and commands wey God don give to Israel:
12 "From Artaxerxes wey be the emperor to Ezra the priest, teacher of the law of God of Heaven.
13 "I command say throughout my empire all the Israelite people, priests, and Levites wey wan go with you get permission to follow you go Jerusalem.
14 I, together with my seven counsellors, we dey send you make you go find out the conditions for Jerusalem and Judah so that you fit see how well dem dey obey the Law of your God, wey dey with you.
15 Make you take the gold and silver offerings wey me and my counsellors wan give to the God of Israel, wey him Temple dey for Jerusalem with you.
16 Make you also take all the gold and silver wey you collect throughout the province of Babylon and the offerings wey the people of Israel and their priests don give for the Temple of their God in Jerusalem.
17 "Make you dey careful to spend this money and make you buy bulls, rams, lambs, corn, and wine and offer them on top the altar of the Temple in Jerusalem.
18 You fit use the silver and gold wey remain for anything wey you and your people want, with wetin your God command.
19 Make you present to God in Jerusalem all the tools wey dem don give you for use in the temple services.
20 And you fit get anything else wey you need for the Temple from the royal treasury.
21 "I command all the treasury officials for the province of West Euphrates make dem provide everything for Ezra, the priest and teacher of the law of the God of Heaven, everything wey he ask una,
22 Take reach limit of 3.4 tons of silver, ten tons of wheat, 2,000 liters of wine, 2,000 liters of olive oil, and enough salt wey he need.
23 Make una dey careful to provide everything wey God of Heaven want for him Temple, and so make una make sure say he no vex with me or with those wey reign after me.
24 Make una no collect any tax from the priests, Levites, musicians, guards, workmen, or anyone wey be part of this Temple.
25 "You, Ezra, make you use the wisdom wey your God don give you to appoint administrators and judges to dey in charge of all the people for West Euphrates wey dey live by the law of your God. Make you teach that law to anyone wey no know am.
26 If anybody no obey the laws of your God or the laws of the empire, make una punish am well: make una kill am or send am go foreign land or seize him property or send am go prison."
27 Ezra talk say, "Praise the LORD, the God of our ancestors! He don make the emperor gree to honor the Temple of God in Jerusalem for this way.
28 By God"s grace I don win the favor of emperor, him counsellors, and all him official wey get power; the LORD my God don give me courage, and I don follow plenty of the heads of clans of Israel talk make dem return with me."
