Exodus 32

¹ When the people see say Moses never come back from mountain but he dey stay there for long time, dem gather round Aaron and tell him say, "We no know wetin don happen to Moses, wey lead us out of Egypt; make us a god wey go lead us."

² Aaron tell them say, "Make una take off gold earrings wey una wives, una sons, and una daughters dey wear, and bring them to me."

³ Naso dem take off their gold earrings and bring them come give Aaron.

⁴ He take take the earrings, melt them, and pour the gold inside mold, and make a gold bull calf. The people say, "Israel, na our god wey lead us out of Egypt be this!"

⁵ Aaron come build altar for front of the gold bull calf and announce say, "festival go dey to honor the LORD tomorrow."

⁶ Early next morning dem bring some animals wey dem go burn for sacrifice and others wey dem go eat for fellowship offering. The people sit down dey eat and drink, and dem begin dey have sex and sin to God.

⁷ God come tell Moses say, "Go back down the mountain quickly, because your people wey you lead out of Egypt don sin and reject me.

⁸ Dem don already leave the way wey I command them to follow; dem don make bull calf with gold and dem don worship am and offer sacrifices to am. Dem dey talk say na their god be this, wey don lead them out of Egypt.

⁹ I know say dem be stubborn people.

¹⁰ Now, no try stop me. I dey vex with them, and I go destroy them. Then I go make you and your descendants great nation.

¹¹ But Moses beg the LORD him God say, "LORD, why you go dey vex with your people, wey you rescue from Egypt with great might and power?

¹² Why Egyptians go dey talk say, you lead your people out of Egypt so that you go fit kill them for mountain and destroy them completely? No dey vex; change your mind and no bring disaster on your people.

¹³ Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Remember the solemn promise wey you make to them say you go give them plenty descendants like stars wey dey for sky and to give their descendants all the land wey you promise say go be their possession for ever."

¹⁴ Naso God change him mind and he no bring disaster on them.

¹⁵ Moses come go down the mountain, and he carry the two stone tablets wey commandments dey both sides.

¹⁶ Na God himself make the tablets and he engrave the commandments on the tablets.

¹⁷ Joshua hear as the people dey shout and tell Moses say, "I dey hear battle for camp."

¹⁸ Moses say, "That one no dey sound like shout of victory or cry of defeat; na sound of singing."

¹⁹ When Moses don dey close enough to see the bull calf and see as the people dey dance, him blood begin dey hot. For there at mountain foot, he throw down the tablet wey he dey carry and break them.

²⁰ he take the bull calf wey dem don make, melt am, grind am to powder, and mix am with water. He come make people of Israel drink am.

²¹ He tell Aaron say, "Wetin these people do to you, wey you don make them commit this kind terrible sin?"

²² Aaron answer say, "No vex with me; you know how these people dey determined to do evil.

²³ Dem tell me say, "We no know wetin don happen to this man Moses, wey bring us out of Egypt; make us a god wey go lead us."

²⁴ I ask say make dem bring their gold jewelries, and the ones wey get take am off and give me. I throw the jewelry inside fire, and na there the bull calf come from."

²⁵ Moses see say Aaron don allow the people get out of control and make fool of themselves for front of their enemy.

²⁶ Naso he stand for gate of the camp and shout, "Make everyone wey dey the LORD side come over here!" Naso the Levites gather round him,

²⁷ and he tell them say, "The LORD God of Israel command everyone of una, make una draw una sword and go round the camp, from this gate go other and kill una brother, una friends, and una neighbors."

²⁸ The Levites obey, and dem kill about 3,000 men that day.

²⁹ Moses come tell the Levites say, "Today, una don ordain unaself for God service, because una don obey him even though na to kill una sons and brothers. Una don earn blessing today."

³⁰ Next day Moses tell the people say, "Una don commit terrible sin. But I go go up the mountain again to God; maybe I go fit obtain forgiveness for una sin."

³¹ Moses come go back to God and say, "These people don commit terrible sin. Dem don make a god with gold and worship am.

³² Abeg forgive their sin; but if you no go forgive them, remove my name from the book wey you don write the names of your people."

³³ God answer say, "Na the names of people wey don sin against me I go remove from my book.

³⁴ Now, go lead the people to the place I tell you about. Remember say my angel go guide you, but time dey come wey I go punish these people for their sin."

³⁵ Naso God send disease on the people, because na them ask Aaron make he build the gold bull calf.
