Daniel 1

¹ King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia attack Jerusalem and surround the city for third year wey Jehioakim be king of Judah.

² God allow am capture Jehioakim wey be King of Judah plus them treasure wey dey the Temple. He carry some prisoners go temple of him god for Babylon, and put the treasure wey him don capture for storeroom.

³ The Babylon king tell Ashpenaz, him chief official say, make dem select young boys for Isrealites, even King and rich men pikin.

⁴ The king talk say, dem must dey handsome, sabi book, get sense and must dey fit to serve for royal palace. Make dem come teach dem to sabi talk and write Babylonian language,

⁵ and make una give dem the same food and wine wey una dey give me. teach dem for three years, so that dem go fit become court official.

⁶ The four young boys wey dem choose na Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, all of dem na from tribe of Judah.

⁷ But the king chief official give dem Babylonia name: Daniel become Belteshazzar, Hananiah become Shadrach, Mishael become Meshach, and Azariah become Abednego.

⁸ Daniel talk for him mind say, he go chop and drink only thing wey God don tell him people. And he tell the king chief official say make dem allow am, make he no eat or drink the wine wey dem serve for palace.

⁹ God don make the official dey friendly and nice to Daniel.

¹⁰ But the man still tell am say, "The king don decide wetin you go dey eat and drink. And I dey fear because he go kill me if he see say you no chop wetin others dey chop and you no dey fit as other young boys dey look."

¹¹ The king official don put guard to dey watch Daniel and him three friend, so Daniel tell the guard say,

¹² For the next ten days, make una give us only vegetable and water for mealtime.

¹³ When the ten days don over, make una compare us with other young men and decide wetin una go do with us."

¹⁴ The guard agree to do wetin Daniel don ask.

¹⁵ After the ten day pass, Daniel and him friend look healthy and better pass the young men wey don dey chop from royal palace.

¹⁶ Naso the guards allow dem to dey chop vegetable dey go instead of the rich food and wine.

¹⁷ God make the four men to dey smart and wise, dem read plenty books and dem sabi book. Daniel fit tell the meaning of dream and vision.

¹⁸ And after the three years wey the king talk, Ashphenaz carry all the young men go meet Nebuchadnezzar.

¹⁹ The king talk with all of them, and no one make am happy pass Daniel, Hananiah, Mischael and Azariah. Na so dem give dem position for royal court.

²⁰ Since then, anytime wey king dey ask for advice, he see say their wisdom better ten times pass any of him other advisor and magician.

²¹ Daniel dey for the royal court till Cyrus wey be emperor of Persia defeat Babylonia.
