1 OKELE gbigbẹ, ti on ti alafia, o san jù ile ti o kún fun ẹran-pipa ti on ti ìja.
1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
2 Ọlọgbọ́n iranṣẹ yio ṣe olori ọmọ ti nhùwa itiju, yio si pin ogún lãrin awọn arakunrin.
2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
3 Koro ni fun fadaka, ati ileru fun wura: bẹ̃li Oluwa ndan aiya wò.
3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
4 Oluṣe buburu fetisi ète eke; ẹni-eké a si ma kiyesi ọ̀rọ ahọn buburu.
4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
5 Ẹnikẹni ti o ba sín olupọnju jẹ, o gàn Ẹlẹda rẹ̀: ẹniti o ba si nyọ̀ si wahala kì yio wà li aijiya.
5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
6 Ọmọ ọmọ li ade arugbo: ogo awọn ọmọ si ni baba wọn.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
7 Ọ̀rọ daradara kò yẹ fun aṣiwère; bẹ̃li ète eke kò yẹ fun ọmọ-alade.
7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
8 Okuta iyebiye jẹ ẹ̀bun li oju ẹniti o ni i; nibikibi ti o yi si, a ṣe rere.
8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
9 Ẹniti o bò ẹ̀ṣẹ mọlẹ, o nwá ifẹ; ṣugbọn ẹniti o tun ọ̀ran hú silẹ, o yà ọrẹ́ nipa.
9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
10 Ibawi wọ̀ inu ọlọgbọ́n jù ọgọrun paṣan lọ ninu aṣiwère.
10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
11 Ẹni-ọ̀tẹ a ma wá kiki ibi kiri; nitorina iranṣẹ ìka li a o ran si i.
11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 O yá ki ẹranko beari ti a kó li ọmọ ki o pade enia, jù aṣiwère lọ ninu wère rẹ̀.
12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Ẹnikẹni ti o ba fi ibi san ire, ibi kì yio kuro ninu ile rẹ̀.
13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 Ẹniti o daju fun omi dabi olupilẹṣẹ ìja; nitorina fi ìja silẹ ki o to di nla.
14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
15 Ẹniti o da enia buburu lare, ati ẹniti o da olododo lẹbi, ani awọn mejeji irira ni loju Oluwa.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.
16 Nitori kini iye owo yio ṣe wà lọwọ aṣiwère lati rà ọgbọ́n, sa wò o, kò ni oye?
16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
17 Ọrẹ́ a ma fẹni nigbagbogbo, ṣugbọn arakunrin li a bi fun ìgba ipọnju.
17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18 Enia ti oye kù fun, a ṣe onigbọwọ, a si fi ara sọfà niwaju ọrẹ́ rẹ̀.
18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
19 Ẹniti o fẹ ìja, o fẹ ẹ̀ṣẹ; ẹniti o kọ́ ẹnu-ọ̀na rẹ̀ ga, o nwá iparun.
19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
20 Ẹniti o ni ayidayida ọkàn kì yio ri ire: ati ẹniti o ni ahọn ọ̀rọ-meji, a bọ sinu ibi.
20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
21 Ẹniti o bi aṣiwère, o bi i si ibinujẹ rẹ̀; baba aṣiwère kò si li ayọ̀.
21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
22 Inu-didùn mu imularada rere wá: ṣugbọn ibinujẹ ọkàn mu egungun gbẹ.
22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
23 Enia buburu mu ẹ̀bun lati iṣẹpo-aṣọ lati yi ọ̀na idajọ pada.
23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
24 Ọgbọ́n wà niwaju ẹniti o moye; ṣugbọn oju aṣiwère mbẹ li opin ilẹ̀-aiye.
24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25 Aṣiwère ọmọ ni ibinujẹ baba rẹ̀, ati kikoro ọkàn fun iya ti o bi i.
25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
26 Pẹlupẹlu kò dara ki a ṣẹ́ olotitọ ni iṣẹ́, tabi ki a lu ọmọ-alade nitori iṣedẽde.
26 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.
27 Ẹniti o ni ìmọ, a ṣẹ́ ọ̀rọ rẹ̀ kù: ọlọkàn tutu si li amoye enia.
27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
28 Lõtọ, aṣiwère, nigbati o ba pa ẹnu rẹ̀ mọ́, a kà a si ọlọgbọ́n; ẹniti o ba pa ẹnu rẹ̀ mọ́ si li amoye.
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
