Jeremiah 41

¹ In the seventh month of that year, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah and grandson of Elishama, a member of the royal family and one of chief officer of king, go to Mizpah with ten men to see Gedaliah. As all of them dey chop food together,

² Ishmael and the ten men wey dey with him commot their sword and kill Gedaliah.

³ Ishmael also kill all the Israelites wey dey with Gedaliah for Mizpah and the Babylonia soldier wey dey there too.

⁴ The next day, before anybody know say dem don kill Gedaliah,

⁵ Eighty men come from Shechem, Shiloh, and Samaria. Dem don shave their beared, tear their cloth, and cut themselves. Dem dey take corn and incense to offer for Temple.

⁶ So Ishmael commot from Mizpah to go meet them, he dey cry as he dey go. When he meet them, he talk say, “Abeg make una come see Gedaliah.”

⁷ As soon as dem dey inside the city, Ishmael and him men kill them and throw their body inside well.

⁸ But ten men dey this group wey tell Ishmael say, “Abeg no kill us! We get wheat, barley, olive oil, and honey wey we don hide inside field.” So he no kill them.

⁹ The well wey Ishmael throw the body of men wey he don kill na large well wey king Asa don dig when king Baasha of Israel dey attack him. Ishmael con fill the well with body.

¹⁰ Then he con make prisoner of the daughter of the king and all people wey remain for Mizpah, wey Nebuzaradan the commanding officer don place under care of Gedaliah. Ishmael take them as prisoner and start to dey go in the direction of Ammon territory.

¹¹ Johanan and all the army leader wey dey with him hear the crime wey Ishmael don commit.

¹² Naso dem go after him with their men and dem overtake him near the large pool for Gibeon.

¹³ When prisioners of Ishmael see Johanan and the leaders of the forces with him, dem dey happy,

¹⁵ But Ishmael and eight of him men run away from Johanan and dem escape go land of Ammon.

¹⁶ Then Johanan and the leaders of the forces with him con take charge of the people wey Ishmael don take away as prisioner from Mizpah after he don kill Gedaliah - soldiers, women, children, and castrated people,

¹⁷ So dem begin dey go Egypt, so that dem fit escape from Babylonians. Dem stop on the way for Chimham, near Bethlehem.

¹⁸ Dem dey fear Babylonians because Ishmael don kill Gedaliah, wey king of Babylonia don make as governor of the land.
