Jeremiah 36

¹ In the fourth year wey Jehoiakim son of Josiah be king of Judah, god tell me say,

² “Get a scroll and write everything wey I don tell you about Israel and Judah and all the nation on top am. Write everthing wey I don tell you from the time wey I first talk to you, when Joshiah be king, take reach this present time.

³ Maybe when people of Judah hear about the destruction wey I wan bring on top them, dem go turn from their evil way. Then I go forgive their wickedness and sin.

⁴ Naso I call Baruch son of Neriah and speak everything wey God don tell me to him. And Baruch write everything down for scroll.

⁵ Then I con give Baruch the instructions wey follow so: “Dem no allow me make I enter the Temple again.

⁶ But I wan make you go there next time when people dey fast. Make you read the scroll loud, so that dem go hear everything wey God don tell me and tell them say na me dictate am to you. Make you do this where everyone fit hear you, including people of Judah wey don come from their towns.

⁷ Maybe dem go pray to God and dem go turn from their evil ways, because God don threaten this people with him terrible anger.”

⁸ Naso Baruch read the word of God in the Temple the way I don tell him say make he do.

⁹ In the ninth month of the fifth year wey Jehoiakim be king of Judah, the people fast to gain favour of God. Na everybody wey dey live for Jerusalem fast and all the people wey come there from the towns of Judah.

¹⁰ Then, as all the people dey listen, Baruch read from the scroll everything wey I don talk. He do am inside Temple, from the room of Gemariah son of Shaphan, the court secretary. Him room dey the upper court near the entrance of the New Gate of the Temple.

¹¹ Micaiah the son of Gemariah and grandson of Shaphan, hear Baruch dey read wetin God don talk from the scroll.

¹² Then he con go to the royal palace, to the room of the court secretary, where all official dey do meeting. Elishama, the court secretary, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son of Hananaih, and all other official dey there.

¹³ Micaiah tell them everything wey he don hear Baruch dey read to the people.

¹⁴ Then the officials con send Jehudi {the son of Nethaniah, grandson of Shelemiah, and great -grandson of Cushi} to go tell Baruch make he bring the scroll wey he don read to the people. Baruch bring the scroll come give them.

¹⁵ Dem talk say, “Sidon, make you read the scroll to us.” Naso Baruch read am.

¹⁶ After he don read am, dem turn to one another in alarm and tell Baruch say, “We must this report to the king.”

¹⁷ Then dem ask him, “Now, tell us how you take write all this? Shey na Jeremiah dictate am for you?”

¹⁸ Baruch answer say, “Na Jeremiah dictate every word to me, and I write am down with ink on top this scroll.”

¹⁹ Then dem tell him say, “Make you and Jeremiah go hide. Make una no allow anyone know where una dey.”

²⁰ The official put the scroll inside room of Elishama, the court secretary, and dem go to king’s court, where dem report everything to king.

²¹ Then the king send Jehudi make he go bring the scroll. He take am from the room of Elishama and read am to the king and all the officials wey dey stand around him.

²² Na winter period and the king dey sit for him winter palace for front of the fire.

²³ As soon as Jehudi don finish to dey read three or four coloumns, the king cut them off with small knife and throw them inside fire. He still dey do am until all the scroll burm finish.

²⁴ The king and all him officials wey hear this no fear and dem no show any sign of sorrow.

²⁵ Although Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah beg the king make he no burn the scroll, he no pay attention to them.

²⁶ Then he order Prince Jerahmeel together with Seraiah son of Aziel and Shelemiah son of Abdel, make dem arrest me and my secretary Baruch. But the LORD, don hide us.

²⁷ After king Jehoiakim don burn the scroll wey I dictate to Baruch, God tell me say

²⁸ Make I take another scroll and write everything wey don dey on the first one on am.

²⁹ God tell me make I tell the king, “You don burn the scroll, and you don ask Jeremiah why he write say the king of Babylonia go come destroy this land and kill hin people and animal.

³⁰ So now, I, the LORD, tell you, king Jehoiakim, say your descendant no go ever rule the kingdom of David again. Dem go throw your dead body out in the sun during the day and to freeze for night.

³¹ I go punish you, your descendant, and your official because of the sin wey all of una don commit. You and people of Jerusalem and Judah no pay attention to my warning, and so I go bring the disaster wey I don talk say I go bring on top una.”

³² Naso I take another scroll and give am to my secretary Baruch, and he write down everything wey I don dictate. He write everything wey dey the first scroll and same message wey I dictate for him before.
