Jeremiah 35

¹ When Jehoiakim son of Josiah be king of Judah, God tell me say,

² “Go meet the member of the Rechabite clan and make you follow them talk. Then bring them come one of the rooms inside Temple and offer them some wine.”

³ Naso I take all of Rechabite clan – Jaazaniah {son of another Jeremiah, wey be son of Habazziniah} and all him brothers and sons -

⁴ And I bring them come Temple. I take them to the room of disciples of prophet Hanan son of Igdaliah. This room dey on top the room of Maaseiah son of Shallum, wey be important official in the Temple, and near rooms of other official.

⁵ Then I put cup and bowl wey wine full am for front of the Rechabites, and I tell them say, “Drink some wine”

⁶ But dem answer say, “We no dey drink wine. Our ancestor Jonadab son of Rechab tell us say make we or our descendant no drink any wine.

⁷ He also tell us say make we no build house or farm the land, and make we no plant vineyard or buy them. He command us make we dey always live for tent, so that we fit remain for this land where we dey live like stranger.

⁸ We don obey all the instruction wey Jonadab give us. We ourselves never drink wine, and even our wives, our son, and our daughters never drink wine.

⁹ We no build house for home - we dey live for tent- and we no get vineyard, field, or corn.

¹⁰ We don obey all instructions wey Jonadab give us.

¹¹ But when king Nebuchadnezzar attack the country, we decide say make we come Jerusalem to get away from Babylonian and Syrian armies. Na the reason why we dey live for Jerusalem be that.”

¹² Then the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, tell me make I go and tell the people of Judah and Jerusalem say,

¹³ “I, the LORD, ask una why una no gree listen to me and obey my instruction.

¹⁷ So now, I, the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel go bring all the destruction wey I don promise on top una people of Judah and Jerusalem. I go do this because una no gree listen to me when I follow una talk, and una no gree answer when I call una.”

¹⁸ Then I con tell the Rechabite clan say the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, don talk say, “Una don obey the command wey una ancestor Jonadab give una; una don follow all him instruction, and una don do everything wey he don command una.

¹⁹ So I, the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, promise say Jonadab son of Rechab go always get male descendant to serve me.”
