Jeremiah 32

¹ God follow me talk in the tenth year wey Zedekiah be the king of Judah, wey also be the eighteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia.

² For that time the army of king of Babylonia dey attack Jerusalem, and dem lock me up for the courtyard of the royal palace.

³ King Zedekiah don put me for prison there and don accuse me say I dey announce say God talk say, “I go let king of Babylonia capture this city,

⁴ And king Zedekiah no go escape. Dem go carry am give king of Babylonia; he go see am face to face and go talk to am in person.

⁵ Dem go take Zedekiah go Babylonia, and he go remain for there until I deal with him. Even if he fight Babylonia, he no go succeed. I, the LORD, don talk.”

⁶ God tell me say,

⁷ Hanamel, my uncle Shallum son, go come ask me make I buy him field for Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin, because I be him nearest relative and I get the right make I buy am for myself.

⁸ Then, just as God don say, Hanamel come meet me for courtyard and he ask me make I buy the field. Naso I know say God don speak to me.

⁹ Naso I buy the field from Hanamel and weigh the money give am, the price na seventeen pieces of silver.

¹⁰ I sign and seal the agreement, and e get witness, and I weigh the money on scale.

¹¹ Then I take the two copies of purchase agreement - na the contract and hin condition dey inside the sealed copy, and the open copy-

¹² And I carry them give Baruch, son of Neriah and grandson of Mahseiah. I carry them give him for presence of Hanamel and the withness wey don sign the agreement of purchase and the people wey dey sit inside courtyard.

¹³ I tell Baruch for their front say,

¹⁴ “The LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, don order you to take these agreements, both the sealed agreement of purchase and the open copy, and make you put them inside clay jar, so that dem fit dey safe for years to come.

¹⁵ The LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, don talk say people go still buy houses, fields, and vineyards for this land again.”

¹⁶ After I don give the agreement of purchase to Baruch, I pray say,

¹⁷ “Alimghty God, na you make the earth and the sky with your great power and might; nothing dey too difficuit for you.

¹⁸ You don show constant love to thousands, but you dey also punish people for the sins of their parents. You be the great and powerful God; you be the LORD Almighty.

¹⁹ You dey make wise plans and you dey do mighty things; you see everything wey people dey do, and you dey reward them according to wetin dem do.

²⁰ Long ago, you perform miracles and wonders for Egypt, and you don continue to dey perform them till this day, both for Israel and among other nations, so that dem go know you for everywhere.

²¹ Through miracles and wonders wey terrify our enemy, you use your power and might to bring your people Israel out of Egypt.

²² You give them this rich and fertile land, as you don promise their ancestors.

²³ But when dem come to this land and take am; dem no obey your command or live according to your command, dem no do anything wey you don order them to do. And so you bring all this destruction on them.

²⁴ “The Babylonians don build siege hills round the city to capture am, and dem dey attack. War, hunger, and disease go make the city fall for their hand. You fit see say everything wey you talk don happen.

²⁵ Yet, Almighty God, na you tell me make I buy the field for presence of witnesses, even though Babylonians go soon capture the city.”

²⁶ God tell me say,

²⁷ “I be the LORD, the God of the all human being. Nothing dey difficult for me.

²⁸ I go give king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia and him army this city; dem go capture am.

²⁹ And set am on fire. Dem go burn am down, together with houses where people don make me vex by burning incense give Baal for rooftop and by pouring out wine offering give other gods.

³⁰ People of Israel and Judah don vex me and make me angry with wetin dem don do from beginning of their history.

³¹ People of this city don make me vex from the day wey dem don build am. I don decide say I go destroy am

³² Because of all the evil wey people of Judah and Jerusalem don do, together with their kings, and leaders, their priest and prophet.

³³ Dem turn their back on me, and I still continue dey teach them, dem no gree dey listen and learn

³⁴ Dem even put their dirty idol inside Temple wey dem build to dey worship me, and dem don make am unclean.

³⁵ Dem don build alter for Baal for Valley of Hinnom, to sacrifice their son and daughter give the god Molech. I no command them make them do this, e never even enter my mind say dem go do that kind thing and make people of Judah sin.”

³⁶ The LORD, God of Israel tell me say, “Jeremiah, the people dey talk say war, hunger, and disease go make this city fall for hand of king of Babylonia. Now make you listen to wetin I wan say again.

³⁷ I go gather all the people from the country wey I don take my anger scatter them and I go bring them back to this place and I go allow them live here in safety.

³⁸ Then dem go be my people, and I go be their God.

³⁹ I go give them single purpose in life: to dey honor me for all time, for their own good and the good of their descendants.

⁴⁰ I go make covenant wey no go end with them. I no go stop to dey do good things for them, and I go make them fear me with all their heart, so that dem no go turn away from me again.

⁴¹ I go enjoy to dey do good things for them, and I go plant them permanently in this land.

⁴² “Just as I don bring disaster on these people, naso I go give them all the good things wey I don promise.

⁴³ The people dey talk say this land go be like desert where people or animal no dey live, and say Babylonians go take am. But people go buy field for this land again.

⁴⁴ People go buy them, and dem go sign the agreement with seal, and witness go dey there. This go happen for territory of Benjamin, for villages round Jerusalem, for towns of Judah, and for towns in the hill country, for foothills, and for southern Judah. I go bring the people back to their land. I, the LORD, don talk.”
