Hosea 8

¹ God talk say, sound the alarm! Enemies dey attack my land like eagle! My people don break the covenant wey I make with them and don rebel against my command.

² Even though dem call me their God and claim say dem be my people and dem know me,

³ Dem don reject good thing. Because of this their enemy go pursue them.

⁴ "My people choose king, but them chose them on their own. Dem appoint leaders, but dem no see my approve!. Dem take their silver and gold and make idols - for their own destruction.

⁵ I hate the gold bull wey people of Samaria city dey worship. I dey vex with them. How long dem go give up on their idols?

⁶ Na Israelite craftman make the idol, and e no good at all! The gold bull wey dem dey worship for Samaria go be smashed to pieces!

⁷ When dem sow wind, dem go reap storm! A field of corn wey never mature no fit produce any bread. But even if e produce am, foreigners go chop am.

⁸ Israel don become like any other nation and dey useless like pot wey don break.

⁹ Stubborn like wild donkeys, the people of Israel dey go their own way. They don go meet Assyria for help, and dey don pay other nation make dem protect them.

¹⁰ But now I go gather them together and punish them. Soon dem go swim in pain, when the emperor of Assyria oppress them.

¹¹ "The more alters wey people of Israel build to remove sin, na the more places dem get to sin!

¹² I write down plenty command for the people, but them reject them like strange and foreign.

¹³ Dem offer sacrifice to me and chop the meat of the sacrifice. But I, the LORD, no dey happy with them, and now I go remember their sin and I go punish them for am; I go send them back go Egypt!

¹⁴ "The people of Israel don build palace, but dem don forget their own maker. The people of Judah don build strong city. But I go send fire wey go burn down their palace and their city."
