Genesis 42

¹ When Jacob know say corn dey for Egypt, he tell him sons say, "Why una no do something?

² I hear say corn dey for Egypt, go there make una go buy so that hunger no go kill us.

³ Naso Joseph ten half-brothers go buy corn for Egypt.

⁴ But Jacob no send Joseph full brother, Benjamin with them, because he dey fear say something fit happen to him.

⁵ Sons of Jacob come go with others to buy corn because hunger dey the land of Canaan.

⁶ Joseph wey be governor of Egypt dey sell corn to people wey come from all over the world. Naso Joseph brothers come and dem bow down before him with their face to the ground.

⁷ When Joseph see him brothers, he recognize them but he act like say he no know them. He come ask them harshly, where una come from? Dem answer na from Canaan we come buy food.

⁸ Although Joseph recognize him brothers but them no recognize him.

⁹ He come remember the dreams wey him get about them and he say una be spies, una don come find out about our country weakness.

¹⁰ Dem answer "No sir, we don come as your slaves to buy food.

¹¹ All of us we be brothers, we no be spies sir, we be honest men."

¹² Joseph come tell them say, "no, una don come to find out where our country dey weak.

¹³ Dem say "sir, we be twelve brothers, son of the same man for Canaan land but one brother don die. Na the youngest one dey with our father now".

¹⁴ Joseph come say, na the way I talk am e be, una be spies.

¹⁵ Na how we go test una be this: I dey swear by the name of the king say, una no go leave here unless say una youngest brother come.

¹⁶ Make one of una go bring am. We go keep the rest of una under guard until we don test the truth of wetin una say, otherwise as the king dey live, una be spies.

¹⁷ He come put them for prison for three days.

¹⁸ And on the third day, Joseph tell them say I be God fearing man and I go spare your lives on one condition to show say you dey honest,

¹⁹ one of you go stay for prison wey dem keep una, the rest of una fit take the corn wey una don buy go meet your family wey dey hungry.

²¹ and dem tell themselves say, "Now we dey suffer for the things wey we don do to our brother. We see the trouble wey him see when he dey beg for help, but we no hear. Na why we dey this trouble now.

²² Reuben come say, "I tell una make una no harm the boy but una no hear, now we dey suffer say him don die."

²³ Joseph dey understand wetin dem dey talk but them no know because them don dey follow him talk through interpreter.

²⁴ Joseph come leave them and begin dey cry. When he don get strength to talk again, he come back and he pick Simeon out of them and tie him for front of others.

²⁵ Joseph come give orders say make them put corn inside him brothers sack, make dem put their money back inside their sack and make dem give them food for their journey, them come do am.

²⁶ Him brothers come load their donkeys with corn wey dem don buy and them leave.

²⁷ The place wey dem spend night, one of them open him sack say make he feed him donkey and he find money inside him sack.

²⁸ He call him brothers, "he don return my money to me na here e dey inside my sack". Their heart come sink, dem begin dey ask one another in fear, "Wetin God don do to us"?.

²⁹ When dem reach their father for Canaan, dem tell him everything wey don happen to them.

³⁰ 'Egypt governor follow us talk harshly and accuse us say we dey spy against him country

³¹ and we no be spies we tell him we be honest men.

³² We be twelve brothers, sons of the same father, one brother don die and the youngest still dey Canaan with our father.'

³³ The man come answer, na how I go find out if una be honest men be this; one of una go stay with me, the rest go take corn to una family wey dey hungry and leave.

³⁴ Make una bring una youngest brother to me, then I go know say una no be spies but honest men. I go give una brother back to you and he fit stay here to dey train.

³⁵ When them come empty their sacks, everyone of them come find their bags of money. When dem see their money, them and their father come dey fear.

³⁶ Their father come tell them say, "Una want make I loose all my children"? Joseph don go, Simeon don go, now you want take Benjamin. Na me be the one wey go suffer am.

³⁷ Reuben come tell him father say, if I no bring Benjamin back to you, you fit kill my two sons. Put am for my care and I go bring am back.

³⁸ But Jacob say, "my son no fit go with you, him brother don die and na only him remain, something fit happen to am on the way. I be old man and the sorrow wey you go cause me fit kill me".
