Genesis 37

¹ Jacob dey live for Cannan land where him father don live before.

² And na the story of Jacob family be this. Joseph wey be seventeen years dey take care of sheep and goats with him brothers, sons of Bilhah and Zilpah him father concubines. He come bring bad report to him father about wetin him brothers dey do.

³ Jacob love Joseph pass all of him other sons because dem born am when him dey old. He come make a special robe for him.

⁴ When him brothers see say their father love Joseph pass them, dem come hate him to the level say them no dey talk to him well.

⁵ One night, Joseph come dream and when he tell him brothers about am, dem come hate him more.

⁶ He say make una hear the dream wey I get,

⁷ we all dey for field and we dey tie grain, when my own grain stand up, una own come form circle and dey bow down for my own.

⁸ Shey you think say you go be king and ruler over us? Him brother ask am. Naso dem con hate him more because of him dream and because of wetin him don talk about them.

⁹ Joseph come dream again and he tell him brothers say I don get another dream, I see sun, moon and eleven stars dey bow for me.

¹⁰ He come also tell him father about the dream. Him father con say make he stop, which kind dream be that? You think say your mother, your brothers and me go come bow down to you?

¹¹ Joseph brothers come dey jealous of him, but him father still dey think about the whole matter.

¹² One day when Joseph brothers don go Shechem to take care of their father's flock,

¹³ Jacob come tell Joseph say I want make you go Shechem where your brothers dey take care of flocks. Joseph come answer say I don ready.

¹⁴ Him father say, "Go see if your brothers dey safe and if the flock dey alright, then come back come tell me." Naso him father send him from Hebron valley. Joseph come reach Shechem and he come dey walk around the country.

²³ When Joseph reach where him brothers dey, dem come tear him clothes,

²⁴ dem come take him and them throw him inside well wey dey dry.

²⁵ As dem dey eat, dem see a group of Ishmaelites wey dey travel from Gilead go Egypt, dem get plenty things on top their camel.

²⁶ Judah come tell him brothers, wetin we go gain if we kill our brother and cover the matter up?

²⁷ Make we sell him to the Ishmaelites so that we no go need to hurt him because na our brother, our own flesh and blood. Him brothers come gree.

²⁸ When some Midianites traders come, dem come bring Joseph out of well and sell him to Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver who come take him to Egypt.

²⁹ When Reuben come back to the well and he see say Joseph no dey there, he come tear him cloth for sorrow.

³⁰ He come return to him brothers and he say the boy no dey there, wetin I go do?

³¹ Dem come kill a goat and them put Joseph robe for the blood.

³² Dem take the robe to their father and they say na wetin we find be this, shey e belong to your son?

³³ He come recognise am and he say, yes na him own. Some wild animals don kill him, dem don tear my son Joseph to pieces.

³⁴ Jacob come tear him cloth in sorrow and him come wear sack cloth. He mourn for him son for a long time,

³⁵ all him sons and him daughters come comfort him. But he no wan hear them and he say, "I go run go the world of the dead so that I go mourn my son." Naso he continue to dey mourn for him son Joseph.

³⁶ For Egypt, Medianites don sell Joseph to Potiphar, one of king officers wey be captain of palace guards.
