Exodus 19

¹ The people of Israel come leave Rephidim, and on the first day of the third month dem don leave Egypt dem reach Sinai desert. For there dem set camp for foot of Mount Sinai,

³ and Moses go up the Mountain to meet with God. God call am from the mountain and tell am to tell Israelites, Jacob descendants say:

⁴ "Una see wetin I, the LORD, do to Egyptians and how I carry una like eagle dey carry her young for her wings, and bring you come here to me.

⁵ Now, if una go obey me and keep my covenant, una go be my own people. The whole earth na my own, but una go be my chosen people,

⁶ people wey dey dedicated to me alone, and una go serve me as priests."

⁷ Naso Moses go down and call Israel leaders together, and tell them everything wey God don command him.

⁸ All the people come answer together say, "We go do everything wey God don say," and Moses go report am to God.

⁹ God come tell Moses say, "I go come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people go hear me as I dey speak with you and dem go believe you from now on." Moses tell God wetin people don answer,

¹⁰ and God tell him say, "Go tell the people say make dem use today and tomorrow purify themselves for worship. Make dem wash their clothes

¹¹ and make dem dey ready day after tomorrow. On that day I go come down on Mount Sinai, where all people fit see me.

¹² Mark boundary wey the people must not cross round the mountain, and tell make dem no go up the mountain or near am. If anyone put foot on am, una must kill the person;

¹³ una go stone am or shoot am with arrows, and make anyone no touch the person. Na the same thing apply to una and animal; na to kill them. But when the trumpet sound, the people go go up the mountain."

¹⁴ Moses come down from the mountain and tell the people make dem get ready for worship. Naso dem wash their clothes,

¹⁵ and Moses tell them, "Make una get ready day after tomorrow and make una no have sex for this period."

¹⁶ On morning of third day, thunder and lightning dey, a thick cloud come appear for mountain, and dem hear a very loud trumpet. All the people for the camp begin dey fear.

¹⁷ Moses lead them commot for the camp go meet God, and dem stand for foot of the mountain.

¹⁸ Smoke come cover the whole Mount Sinai, because God don come down on am with fire. The smoke dey go up like smoke of furnace, and all people dey fear in violence.

¹⁹ Sound of trumpet begin dey get louder. Moses speak, and God answer am with thunder.

²⁰ Naso God come down on top Mount Sinai and call Moses to mountain top. Moses go up

²¹ and God tell him say, "Go warn the people make dem no cross the boundary say dem wan come look me; if dem do, plenty of them go die.

²² Even the priests wey come near me must purify themselves, or I go punish them."

²³ Moses tell God say, "The people no fit come up, because you don command us say make we mark boundary round am and make we no cross am.

²⁴ God reply say, "Go down make you bring Aaron with you. But make the priests and the people no cross boundary come up to me, or I go punish them."

²⁵ Moses come go down to the people and tell them wetin God don say.
