Exodus 17

¹ All Israelite community come leave Sin desert, and dem dey move from one place to other as God dey command them. Dem camp for Rephidim, but water no dey to drink.

² Dem complain to Moses say, "Give us water to drink". Moses answer say, "Why una dey complain? Why una wan test God?"

³ But the people dey thirsty and dem continue to dey complain to Moses. Dem say, "Why you bring us commot for Egypt? Na to kill us and our children and animal with thirst?"

⁴ Moses come pray to God say, "Wetin I fit do with these people? Dem dey ready to stone me."

⁵ God come tell Moses say, "Take some leaders of Israel with you, and make una go ahead of the people. Take the stick wey you use strike Nile with you.

⁶ I go stand before you for a rock at Mount Sinai. Strike the rock, and water go come out of am for people to drink." Moses come do am for presence of Israel elders.

⁷ Dem name the place Massah and Meribah, because Israelites complain and test God when dem ask say, "Shey God dey with us or not?"

⁸ Amalekites come attack Israelites for Rephidim.

⁹ Moses tell Joshua say, "Pick some men to go fight Amalekites tomorrow. I go stand on top hill and I go dey hold the stick wey God don tell me to carry."

¹⁰ Joshua come do wetin Moses command him and dem go fight Amalekites, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur go on top of the hill.

¹¹ As Moses dey raise him hand up, Israelites dey win, but when he put him hand down, Amalekites begin dey win.

¹² When Moses hand dey tire, Aaron and Hur come bring stone for him to sit, and dem stand beside him, dem hold him hand, and dem hold am till sun go down.

¹³ For this way, Joshua defeat Amalekites totally.

¹⁴ God come tell Moses say, "Write down account of this victory, so that people go remember am. Tell Joshua say I go destroy Amalekites completely."

¹⁵ Moses come build altar and name am "God na my Banner".

¹⁶ He say, "Make una hold banner of God high! God go continue to dey fight Amalekites for ever!"
