Deuteronomy 18

¹ The people of Levi tribe, with the priest, no go receive any land. But dem go receive part of sacrifices wey dem dey offer to the LORD,

² because he don promise to provide for them in this way.

³ When una sacrifice a bull or sheep, make una give the priest the shoulder, the jaws, and the stomach.

⁴ Plus that, dem go receive the first part of una grain harvest and part of una first batch of wine and olive oil. Una must also give them the first wool wey una cut from una sheep each year.

⁵ Make una give these gifts to the priests, because God don choose them and their descendants out of all tribes of Israel to be him special servants for place of worship.

⁶ Any Levite fit leave him hometown and go to the place where God choose for people to dey worship him,

⁷ and turn special servant of the LORD for there, just like all other Levites.

⁸ Some Levites fit get money from selling things wey belong to family, and others fit no get. But all Levites wey dey serve for place of worship go receive same amount of food from the sacrifices and gifts wey the people bring.

⁹ Very soon una go enter the land wey the LORD una God dey give una. The nations wey dey live there do things wey God no like and make una no follow their example.

¹¹ Make una no sacrifice una son or daughter. And make una no try use magic or witchcraft to tell destiny or cast spell or follow dead spirit talk.

¹² God no like anyone wey do these kind things, and that na why he go help una destroy the nations wey dey for the land.

¹³ Make una no ever dey guilty of doing these kind bad things!

¹⁴ Una go enter and take the land from nations wey dey use magic and witchcraft. But the LORD una God no go allow una do those things.

¹⁵ Instead, he go choose one of una own people make he be prophet just like me, and una must do wetin the prophet talk.

¹⁶ Una dey ask for prophet the day una gather for Mount Sinai and una tell God say, "Abeg no allow us hear your voice or see this terrible fire again " if we do, we go die!"

¹⁷ God come tell me: Moses, na right thing dem talk.

¹⁸ So when I wan follow them talk, I go choose one of them to be prophet like you. I go give the prophet my message, and he go tell the people exactly wetin I don talk.

¹⁹ Since na from me the message come from, any person wey no obey am go answer to me.

²⁰ But if I no talk, and a prophet claim say he get message from me, una must kill that prophet, and una must also kill any prophet wey talk say he get message from another god.

²¹ Una fit dey ask unaself say, "How we go fit know if na from God a prophet message come from?"

²² Una go know, because if God talk say something go happen, e go happen for real. And if e no happen, una go know say the prophet dey lie say he dey speak for God. Make una no fear any prophet wey him message no come from God.
