1 NJẸ ọ̀rọ Oluwa tọ̀ Jona ọmọ Amittai wá, wipe,
1 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
2 Dide, lọ si Ninefe, ilu nla nì, ki o si kigbe si i; nitori ìwa buburu wọn goke wá iwaju mi.
2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 Ṣugbọn Jona dide lati sá lọ si Tarṣiṣi kuro niwaju Oluwa, o si sọkalẹ lọ si Joppa; o si ri ọkọ̀ kan ti nlọ si Tarṣiṣi: bẹ̃li o sanwo ọkọ, o si sọkalẹ sinu rẹ̀, lati ba wọn lọ si Tarṣiṣi lati sá kuro niwaju Oluwa.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
4 Ṣugbọn Oluwa rán ẹfufu nla jade si oju okun, ijì lile si wà ninu okun, tobẹ̃ ti ọkọ̀ na dabi ẹnipe yio fọ.
4 But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
5 Nigbana ni awọn atukọ̀ bẹ̀ru, olukuluku si kigbe si ọlọrun rẹ̀, nwọn ko ẹrù ti o wà ninu ọkọ dà sinu okun, lati mu u fẹrẹ. Ṣugbọn Jona sọkalẹ lọ si ẹ̀gbẹ́ ọkọ̀; o si dubulẹ sùn wọra.
5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
6 Bẹ̃li olori-ọkọ̀ tọ̀ ọ wá, o si wi fun u pe, Kini iwọ rò, iwọ olõrun? dide, kepe Ọlọrun rẹ, boya Ọlọrun yio ro tiwa, ki awa ki o má bà ṣegbé.
6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.
7 Olukuluku wọn si wi fun ẹgbẹ rẹ̀ pe, Wá, ẹ si jẹ ka ṣẹ keké, ki awa ki o le mọ̀ itori tani buburu yi ṣe wá sori wa. Bẹ̃ni nwọn ṣẹ keké, keké si mu Jona.
7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
8 Nigbana ni nwọn wi fun u pe, Sọ fun wa, awa bẹ̀ ọ, nitori ti tani buburu yi ṣe wá sori wa? kini iṣẹ rẹ? nibo ni iwọ si ti wá? orukọ ilu rẹ? orilẹ-ède wo ni iwọ si iṣe?
8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?
9 On si wi fun wọn pe, Heberu li emi; mo si bẹ̀ru Oluwa, Ọlọrun ọrun, ti o dá okun ati iyangbẹ ilẹ.
9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.
10 Nigbana ni awọn ọkunrin na bẹ̀ru gidigidi, nwọn si wi fun u pe, Ẽṣe ti iwọ fi ṣe eyi? nitori awọn ọkunrin na mọ̀ pe o sá kuro niwaju Oluwa, nitori on ti sọ fun wọn.
10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.
11 Nigbana ni nwọn wi fun u pe, Kini ki a ṣe si ọ, ki okun le dakẹ fun wa? nitori okun ru, o si jà ẹfufu lile.
11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.
12 On si wi fun wọn pe, Ẹ gbe mi, ki ẹ si sọ mi sinu okun; bẹ̃li okun yio si dakẹ fun nyin: nitori emi mọ̀ pe nitori mi ni ẹfufu lile yi ṣe de bá nyin.
12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.
13 Ṣugbọn awọn ọkunrin na wà kikan lati mu ọkọ̀ wá si ilẹ; ṣugbọn nwọn kò le ṣe e: nitori ti okun ru, o si jà ẹfufu lile si wọn.
13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
14 Nitorina nwọn kigbe si Oluwa nwọn si wi pe, Awa bẹ̀ ọ, Oluwa awa bẹ̀ ọ, máṣe jẹ ki awa ṣegbe nitori ẹmi ọkunrin yi, má si ka ẹjẹ alaiṣẹ si wa li ọrùn: nitori iwọ, Oluwa, ti ṣe bi o ti wù ọ.
14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
15 Bẹ̃ni nwọn gbe Jona, ti nwọn si sọ ọ sinu okun: okun si dẹkun riru rẹ̀.
15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
16 Nigbana ni awọn ọkunrin na bẹ̀ru Oluwa gidigidi, nwọn si rubọ si Oluwa, nwọn si jẹ́ ẹ̀jẹ́.
16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
17 Ṣugbọn Oluwa ti pese ẹja nla kan lati gbe Jona mì. Jona si wà ninu ẹja na li ọsan mẹta ati oru mẹta.
17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
