1 NIGBATI awọn ọta Juda ati Benjamini gbọ́ pe awọn ọmọ-igbekun nkọ́ tempili fun Oluwa Ọlọrun Israeli;

1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

2 Nigbana ni nwọn tọ̀ Serubbabeli wá, ati awọn olori awọn baba, nwọn si wi fun wọn pe, ẹ jẹ ki awa ki o ba nyin kọle, nitoriti awa nṣe afẹri Ọlọrun nyin, gẹgẹ bi ẹnyin; awa si nru ẹbọ si ọdọ rẹ̀, lati ọjọ Esarhaddoni, ọba Assuri, ẹniti o mu wa gòke wá ihinyi.

2 Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

3 Ṣugbọn Serubbabeli, ati Jeṣua ati iyokù ninu awọn olori awọn baba Israeli wi fun wọn pe, Kì iṣe fun awa pẹlu ẹnyin, lati jumọ kọ ile fun Ọlọrun wa; ṣugbọn awa tikarawa ni yio jùmọ kọle fun Oluwa Ọlọrun Israeli gẹgẹ bi Kirusi ọba, ọba Persia, ti paṣẹ fun wa,

3 But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

4 Nigbana ni awọn enia ilẹ na mu ọwọ awọn enia Juda rọ, nwọn si yọ wọn li ẹnu ninu kikọle na.

4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,

5 Nwọn si bẹ̀ awọn ìgbimọ li ọ̀wẹ si wọn, lati sọ ipinnu wọn di asan, ni gbogbo ọjọ Kirusi, ọba Persia, ani titi di ijọba Dariusi, ọba Persia.

5 And hired counsellers against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

6 Ati ni ijọba Ahasuerusi, ni ibẹ̀rẹ ijọba rẹ̀, ni nwọn kọwe ẹ̀sun lati fi awọn ara Juda ati Jerusalemu sùn.

6 And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

7 Ati li ọjọ Artasasta ni Biṣlami, Mitredati, Tabeeli ati awọn ẹgbẹ rẹ̀ iyokù kọwe si Artasasta, ọba Persia: a si kọ iwe na li ède Siria, a si ṣe itumọ rẹ̀ li ède Siria.

7 And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.

8 Rehumu, adele ọba, ati Ṣimṣai, akọwe, kọ iwe ẹ̀sun Jerusalemu si Artasasta ọba, bi iru eyi:

8 Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:

9 Nigbana ni Rehumu, adele-ọba, ati Ṣimṣai akọwe, ati awọn ẹgbẹ wọn iyokù: awọn ara Dina, ti Afarsatki, ti Tarpeli, ti Afarsi, ti Arkefi, ti Babiloni, ti Susanki, ti Dehafi ati ti Elamu,

9 Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,

10 Ati awọn orilẹ-ède iyokù ti Asnapperi, ọlọla ati ẹni-nla nì, kó rekọja wá, ti o si fi wọn do si ilu Samaria, ati awọn iyokù ti o wà ni ihahin odò, ati ẹlomiran.

10 And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.

11 Eyi ni atunkọ iwe na ti nwọn fi ranṣẹ si i, ani si Artasasta ọba: Iranṣẹ rẹ, awọn enia ihahin odò ati ẹlomiran.

11 This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.

12 Ki ọba ki o mọ̀ pe, awọn Ju ti o ti ọdọ rẹ wá si ọdọ wa, nwọn de Jerusalemu, nwọn nkọ́ ọlọtẹ ilu ati ilu buburu, nwọn si ti fi odi rẹ̀ lelẹ, nwọn si ti so ipilẹ rẹ̀ mọra pọ̀.

12 Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

13 Ki ọba ki o mọ̀ nisisiyi pe, bi a ba kọ ilu yi, ti a si tun odi rẹ̀ gbe soke tan, nigbana ni nwọn kì o san owo ori, owo-bode, ati owo odè, ati bẹ̃ni nikẹhin yio si pa awọn ọba li ara.

13 Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.

14 Njẹ nisisiyi lati ãfin ọba wá li a sa ti mbọ́ wa, kò si yẹ fun wa lati ri àbuku ọba, nitorina li awa ṣe ranṣẹ lati wi fun ọba daju;

14 Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

15 Ki a le wá inu iwe-iranti awọn baba rẹ: bẹ̃ni iwọ o ri ninu iwe-iranti, iwọ o si mọ̀ pe, ọlọtẹ ni ilu yi, ti o si pa awọn ọba ati igberiko li ara, ati pe, nwọn ti ṣọtẹ ninu ikanna lati atijọ wá, nitori eyi li a fi fọ ilu na.

15 That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

16 Awa mu u da ọba li oju pe, bi a ba tun ilu yi kọ, ti a si pari odi rẹ̀ nipa ọ̀na yi, iwọ kì o ni ipin mọ ni ihahin odò.

16 We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

17 Nigbana ni ọba fi èsi ranṣẹ si Rehumu, adele-ọba, ati si Ṣimṣai, akọwe, pẹlu awọn ẹgbẹ wọn iyokù ti ngbe Samaria, ati si awọn iyokù li oke odò: Alafia! ati kiki miran.

17 Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.

18 A kà iwe ti ẹnyin fi ranṣẹ si wa dajudaju niwaju mi.

18 The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.

19 Mo si paṣẹ, a si ti wá, a si ri pe, lati atijọ wá, ilu yi a ti ma ṣọ̀tẹ si awọn ọba, ati pe irukerudo ati ọ̀tẹ li a ti nṣe ninu rẹ̀.

19 And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.

20 Pẹlupẹlu awọn ọba alagbara li o ti wà lori Jerusalemu, awọn ti o jọba lori gbogbo ilu oke-odò; owo ori, owo odè, ati owo bodè li a ti nsan fun wọn.

20 There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.

21 Ki ẹnyin ki o paṣẹ nisisiyi lati mu awọn ọkunrin wọnyi ṣiwọ, ki a má si kọ ilu na mọ, titi aṣẹ yio fi jade lati ọdọ mi wá.

21 Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.

22 Ẹ kiyesi ara nyin, ki ẹnyin ki o má jafara lati ṣe eyi: ẽṣe ti ìbajẹ yio fi ma dàgba si ipalara awọn ọba?

22 Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

23 Njẹ nigbati a ka atunkọ iwe Artasasta ọba niwaju Rehumu, ati Ṣimṣai akọwe, ati awọn ẹgbẹ wọn, nwọn gòke lọ kankán si Jerusalemu, si ọdọ awọn Ju, nwọn si fi ipá pẹlu agbara mu wọn ṣiwọ.

23 Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

24 Nigbana ni iṣẹ ile Ọlọrun ti o wà ni Jerusalemu, duro. Bẹ̃li o duro titi di ọdun keji Dariusi, ọba Persia.

24 Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
